My street flooded with the last rain (and this one but knew better this time) and my brother's NA Miata flooded. We had to take the interior out all the way down to the metal to dry everything out... It wasn't fun at all but at least the NA Miata is about the easiest car to take apart ever.

Yeah, that was my big worry when we drove up to the house. I've had a friend who got his audi flooded, and even though he got it all dried up, that funky smell never completely went away. My wife won't stop talking about the look on my face seeing the water and the big sigh of relief that it was not too bad.

hey Blaine and any other fellow racers out there... know any good places in the Bay Area to try on/buy a racing helmet? preferably around East Bay or South Bay. My old SA95 isn't gonna cut it anymore for track days so it's time for a new one.

I have a size L Pyrotect full face SA2010 you can try on. I know with Pyrotect the exterior shell is the same with different sizes of pads and foam. My brother runs the same helmet in size XS but we both have a few other pads to get optimal fit.

After using shitty motorcycle helmets and loaners getting a proper helmet was one of the best investments I've made for motorsports thus far.

Thanks, I am pretty sure after some measurements that I will need a XXL. I have a pretty fat head and that is what I have currently in a Bieffe SA95. It's been a good run, using it for autoxes, karting, and track days for the last 12 years. But yeah I'm gonna need a SA2010... might get an open face helmet this time around for better comfort, not like I am racing formula cars.

I'm not a fan of open helmets. If you're going to ware one get one with the most protection. You only have one head (and face).

The only major professional racing I can think of that still uses open helmets in closed cars is rally, and with gearing those cars only go about 120MPH.

I too am on the market for a helmet, getting tired of using my motorcycle helmet for karting and rallyX. Lots of places on-line to buy from but would much rather try some on and get a feel for them. Some of those suckers aren't cheap.

Very well said, you shouldn't skimp on safety parts. Guess I will do closed face again. If you are coming to the meet tonight, can you bring the helmet? I doubt I would be able to get it on my big head, but would be nice to look and feel it.

There are a couple buy helmet talk/ thread in the forum and quite educational. The bottom line is spend more for safety, light weight and no need to upgrade.

Oh, and cover the face too.
