I think it's just bolt on stuff along with suspension and brake upgrades. With regards to power, I say they probably gave it 10 - 15 HP bump. Overall, the car will still be marginally quicker around most tracks and they can justify a bump of $3k in price. Not something I would have liked to see coming, but makes total sense.

Looks like most of us can just part the pieces ourselves and get something close to what they'll be offering on the showrooms.

Also remember that the TRD GT86 doesn't have ANY power upgrades besides maybe the axle-back exhaust and sports air filter. Plus upgraded aero, chassis, suspension, and brakes. With all that (installed on car from the factory), it already costs +$15k USD (or something ridiculous) over the standard GT86. <-- The list of upgrades on THAT car is already the equivalent counterpart to what we see on this factory tuned BRZ. Now when you ask for more power - even if just 30-40hp - LMAO you can kiss 'affordable' goodbye.

a whole bunch of cars come with factory Side-Mount Intercoolers. They are invisible to from the outside of the car.

its quite possible that if a turbo was in use, they went with SMIC to keep weight down and keep a the CoG low as opposed to a TMIC

Count me in. I was in a long time ago anyways. As soon as I heard the rumor of and STI version.

Now where can I put my deposit and prep my BRZ trade-in?

As long as it is lighter and more powerfull than base BRZ as stated by a news report direct from the head BRZ engineer then a big big YES!

Maybe, but I think if they were doing an IC and it wasn't a TMIC, it would be a FMIC. Have you looked under the hood? I think they could pretty easily fit a smallish FMIC - there is quite a bit of space in front of the block. And in that pic, it doesn't appear there is a FMIC.

Yeah, I am wishful thinking at $32K. That's what they would do if they were smart and looked at the competitors to the regular BRZ and other cars like the 370Z. BUT, it is all about money and if they thought they could sell it at $39K or $40K, I'm sure that's what the price would be.

BUT, I think there is more low cost weight to be dropped even out of the factory. Lighter seats (maybe even a rear seat delete for hard core track focused car). Battery. Electric delete (windows & door locks). Stereo delete. CF drive shaft (this starts to get pricey here with materials as you allude to). CF roof. Lighter doors. Etc...

And we all know based on what we are seeing with aftermarket tunes they could probably drop at least 10 lb in exhaust and add 20 hp in tune with barely any changes (better intake/exhaust) without even cracking the block or heads.

But yes, I agree with you that it would be hard for them to get 200 lbs off, add 20 hp, and keep it in the area of $32K. Honestly though, even 100 lbs off, 20 hp, and add better brakes/suspension/aero/tires, that's still pretty potent considering our stock tires suck and with better tires the FRS/BRZ is already a very capable car. The big thing I would hope for is to not get the car up into the $39K or $40+K range. Not buying a car for that much and that's a big part of why I liked the original BRZ ($27K'ish premium) and the original 2004 USDM STi ($32.5K'ish).

Is it just me or is anyone else rather let down by the aero components for the BRZ STI?

NOTE: I am focusing strictly on the aesthetics

The side skirts could definitely be worse.. but I find them relatively bland. I find the trunk lip spoiler extremely boring.. I don't need some gaudy whale tale spoiler but come on..

The only attractive piece (and the only pece I think flows with the car) is the front lip spoiler.

I think it all looks pretty good... It does not look riced out and flows/compliments an already beautiful car.

I'd be surprised if they kept that wing on the production car/bits. I could see that wing being used to just test down force angles for a fixed production wing later... However, I'm just a TN hillbilly so I could be wrong!

Doubt Turbo

This is Boxer engine, most IC are atop, if it had the side one, it would not fit due to the bumper beam.

Wash your mouth out; FMIC indeed

Next you'll be telling me Subaru will build a rear drive car

Where do people get the time to write crap on the pavement at the Nurburgring? I barely have time to do my freaking laundry, or drive my BRZ for fun for that matter.

Toyota just unveiled the TRD supercharger at SEMA so for $5K (est.) plus install you can have the the extra 30-40 warrantied HP that everyone seems to want to go with that look.
