Do the mirror assemblies themselves carry the missing wire in the harness?

While searching for a complete mirror assembly, i came across the BRZ with heated option set and noticed the harness in the mirror was a single plug. If the wires are there to the door, but not to the mirror, maybe the missing link is the harness that is already attached to the mirror assembly.

That was going to eventually be the next thing I looked into while looking at the door wiring.

With regard to the photo I took of the body harness in the cabin I'm going to look at the rest of the wiring diagrams for everything going into the door. I'm thinking that it's very likely the plugs got turned around. I see the pink wire I was expecting to see in pin slot 8 of the 10 pin connector.

The rest I'm hoping are power mirror functions which I'll confirm looking at in wiring diagrams hopefully.

So that connector on the left of the photo is connector ED1 that I was looking for.

Here is the pin out of the connector.

Pin 10 (white wire): Door speaker
Pin 9 (blue wire): Door speaker
Pin 8 (pink wire): Heated mirror wire (which from the wiring diagram goes all the way to the mirror)
Pin 7 (light blue): Power window (can't see in the photo)
Pin 6 (black wire): Ground (Can't see in the photo)
Pin 5 not used
Pin 4 not used
Pin 3 (light green): Unlock signal
Pin 2 (red wire): Lock signal
Pin 1 not used

I'll get back under the dash and see if I can't look up and verify the Pink and black stripe wire coming into the ED1 connector.

It looks like at this point it may just be a mirror assembly that needs to be changed out to whatever the part number is on the one used on the BRZ limited or a Monogram. Now I'm glad the color part of the mirror is a separate piece.

Would someone with a BRZ limited please pop off the colored panel on your left hand mirror housing and take a photo and post it up. I'd like to compare it with the one I took of mine earlier in this thread. Thanks.

So to recap where we are in this process of identifying what we think is needed to add the heated mirror function.

1. Relay (about 20 bucks after shipping no matter how you try and get it)
2. Mirror assemblies from a BRZ or Monogram.

Found the part number for the FR-S with heated mirrors but it shows as discontinued:
Right side mirror assembly: SU003-05205
Left side mirror assembly: SU003-05206

Got back into the mirror housing with daylight, sorry for no pictures as my cell was dead, and was able to clarify a few things.

Unfortunately the wiring diagrams were a bit of a let down as they fail to call out the actual connector on the pigtail for the mirrors as it does everywhere else. It just assumes you'll recognize hidden in plain sight as part of the assembly name. Irony is though if it weren't for this, and had I started with the passenger mirror vs. the driver side, I might not have been chasing down the rest of the leads and come to my conclusion here.

So here we go. The wiring is there going into the door as we saw from my photos and the break down of the ED1 connector in the photo a few posts back. Where I got excited and lead awry a little was that the four wires in the left hand mirror housing had a pink one but didn't notice in the assembly callout the connector name E7 since all the other connectors being called out had a white box the name was in.

While lookin at what I could I see, the four wires were split evenly for the motor controls adjusting the mirror. Having gone back now and looked at this the pink wire coming from ED1 becomes a black wire on pin 4 of connector E7 and grounds out on pin 10 of E7.

So now I'm confident that adding the relay in the fuse box and changing the mirror assemblies to the Subaru part numbers 91036CA081 (right side) and 91036CA091
(left side) will give us factory heated mirrors with no additional wire routing. The assemblies each cost $163 prior to shipping. Some ebay shops are coming up with about $110 per assembly or $140ish for both and show the plugs with the pins there for all (make sure you see all 5 pins).

No problem. I think when I order my housings I'm going to get the E-bay set for 140 vs. going through Subaru parts for 160 each. All I'll have to do is swap over my J8A painted covers.

Would it be safe to assume that aftermarket heated mirror would work as well?
For example http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/rexp...l#.VsNbskYt3cQ

from the looks of it, yes, it would work. As long as the glass has a heated function, all you need is the mirror housing assembly with heated option and a relay.

Search any of those subaru part numbers on ebay and you'll come up with plenty to chose from in that 150ish price range.
