Smart man. I would have done the same. The '12 GTR is sick.

I like the R8, it looks just a bit more exotic than the GTR.

I don't want to know about the problems of either car, especially out of warranty, because that'll ruin all of the fun.

I thoroughly prefer the feel of the GT-R over the R8 on the racetrack. I speak from experience...

playing GT5. :x

Doesn't the GTR have ridiculous maintanence costs though? As far as supercars are concerned, basically all of them have too many problems to deal with imo. Well, unless you count the NSX as a supercar. Dunno about LFA, probably is reliable and okay to drive around town, but that's more of a car you buy when you have a 7 digit income, which I may never have :P

GTR. How high are the R8s maintanence costs-better yet, how much is an R8 period?

You could get a GTR and go through several oil changes/routine maintanence periods and still would cost less than a new R8. IMO, R8s are ugly from the door line back.

Agreed. Used GTR's are very tempting. Throw in 3-4k worth of mods and you have a very sweet ride.

I would also throw the new RS3 on that list.

But I've also heard from many GT-R owners that if you gonna get the first models, skip the 09 and get a 10, for a couple reasons, first off, the 09's had a couple things that rattled on the interior, not every single one but more then just a once in a while thing(I.E. dome light housing, pass door interior ect...) also there were refinements and slightly altered trans tune to the oem ecu, for better trans application and so it wasnt so harsh on it self in the launch modes. There's more but I believe the trans one put me over the top to look for a 2010, but still it's about 5k or more less for the 09's so it's really a question of what matters and how far will you take Godzilla in to Japan

Or just wait 2 years for the price of a 11/12 to drop. . Depreciation is a bitch.

I know I'm late to the party but I'd go with R8 all day every day in every way.

More cache, better looks (imo), available with manual gear box, and it is one of - if not the cheapest super car to own. The first 4 years are $1,500 in scheduled maintenance. It's cheaper to maintain then most commuter cars. I like that it is such a robust car as well, like a corvette, the engine is relatively under-stressed and makes for a playful partner and tolerates a lot of abuse - just as it does in the Gallardo or so I've heard.

Give me piece of mind over physic defying turbo-boost pressure (GTR) any day if I'm the one signing the dotted line.
