I'll tell you what is not realistic in my book though. Failing to offer a sports car in red. What was Subaru thinking not offering red for the BRZ 2020 model year?!

I was finally at the point of seriously considering a new BRZ purchase, only to find out inexplicably Subaru had dropped red. Maybe Subaru will come to their senses and offer red for model year 2021, but who knows if I will like the new body style changes as much.

And yeah, I joined this forum and this is my first post, to complain about the missing red color, lol. It was such a disappointment and shock to find red missing for 2020. Personal preference of course - but I'm not buying a sports car unless it's red.

I love my Red 2019. The pictures I have seen of the 2021 are not great, its an ugly car, if that's really what they are going to produce.

Just get a used '17 ... '19
Will help not worry about getting the car slightly scratched the first few times you go to autox or track.

I hear ya. But the red color is not so easy to find used, and let's face it, this vehicle more than some others, is beat on and abused. Seems like every other BRZ I look at ends up having a "rebuilt" title or some performance mods I don't want. Would have been nice to have gotten a new one, but I guess that wasn't mean to be. Nearly every other car made offers the color red - yet Subaru for some odd reason decided to delete it. Doesn't make sense to me.

Keep searching, and good luck!
I was as pessimistic when I was in the market, and then suddenly found a clean car with less than 4000 miles on the odometer and was able to negotiate a significant discount from new.

It isn't "Subaru" that dropped the colour just Subaru USA. Still get them everyplace else. My local dealer had a red 2020 in the showroom for a couple of months. I almost bought it back in February before my Toyota dealer found the Hakone.

It seems the safer colours are getting more and more popular with car makers. Coming from a white BRZ owner (it is pearl)

https://www.caradvice.com.au/865355/50-shades-of-grey/

Not a bad read.

It has been headed down this road for many years now. The companies try to play it as that is what sells but I think the reality is the fewer colours the less it costs them. Of course the colours they make sell best since they give so few choices.

the "safer" colours are the ones that sells in huge numbers.

Over here you see a plethora of grey/white/black/silver cars with a few different colours thrown into the mix.

Its infuriating and depressing to see such monochromatic roads.

Makes it harder to find that one car that is specced the way you like it on the used market. (theres always the one option that makes it not right...usually the colour.)

I can’t imagine how red isn’t a “safe” color for a sports car.

I'm with you 100%. I specifically wanted a red BRZ (more than half of the >100 cars I've owned in my life have been red). I'm annoyingly old-skool, and to me the only colors for a sports car are red or green.

A major reason I bought the car I did was because it was the last new red BRZ I could find in the eastern half of the US (I would have gone with WRB too, but already have a WRX in that color and wanted something different).

The continued trend to bland, boring colors has been disheartening to watch. Most cars these days seem to be grey, gray, silver, black, or white. Those are the colors of the road. Are people trying to blend in with road surfaces? What happened with all those fabulous primary bright colors of the 50's and 60's? Reds, greens, blues, and so many others? Especially for a BRZ/86. This is a sports car. It's supposed to be fun!

I can just see Toyota and Subaru coming out with this as the complete set of color choices for the net gen car:

They even named one of the colors “asphalt” - I think that was a Toyota color maybe.

They just renamed the subaru colors for Scion/Toyota. The colour codes are the same.

Asphalt is dark grey metallic.
The new 2020 86 Pavement colour is Magnetite grey metallic.

Ah, ok. I just thought it funny the previous poster was talking about how the colors look like they’re trying to blend into the road - they actually called the color asphalt, so yeah...
