And switching between manual and auto becomes automatic as well. Back in the old days, I used to need to sit on the right hand whenever I drive automatic. Nowadays, I drive manual/auto about 40/60 and I do what's appropriate automatically.

Na. I just bypass the neutral switch on my MT cars so no worries.

I have double footed the brake on ocassion if I drive the MT for a long period though

99% of my driving is MT but once in a while I drive my sisters car which is AT and the only real issue I have is when coming to a stop, I tend to forget that I don't need to clutch in when coming to a stop so I panic that I might stall the car until I remember that it's not a thing in AT vehicles.

I went about 10 years before owning an auto and yeah it’s hard to transition at first. Before I could need an auto I only drove one if I was borrowing someone’s and I would back up and then jam my left foot on the clutch... I mean brake and screech to a halt. Now that I’ve own autos I don’t try to use the clutch but I still reach down for a shift at random and nothing is there. I drive manual/auto about 85/15.

Apparently Canada's take rate is very different than the Americans for the 86.

This may be changing though. Up until the beginning of this year, almost all the parked twins in the streets are manual. But there's been a lot of autos out there lately. And Don Valley North Toyota has an auto 86 in the show room now. Haven't seen that before.

I'm going to teach my kids (not born yet) to drive stick. I think they will be considered the Baby Forgotten Gen XX'ers Generation.

Unfortunately they won't be able to borrow my car because manually-driven (with human limbs) cars will be outlawed by then.

I'll just have a big farm where we can drive around for the good ol' times.

I suggest that you buy your farm now, ensure you have loads of farm animals. Once you have necessary quantity of said farm animals you go for full blown mass extinction of said animals. Bury said animals under great pressure and wait.

You should get fresh oli in time when your children or grandchildren are ready to drive granddad's pristine Twin..

Actually an auto 86 in Canada costs less than the corresponding manual in US. E.g. Canadian base list price for 2019 86 6A is $31,190CAD. At exchange rate of $0.744US for a Canadian dollar, $31,190CAD = $23,114.74USD. In the meantime, the US base list price for 2019 86 6M is $26,665USD.

The idea of manual transmission making ADHD drivers safer has been making the rounds lately. With the current effort to engineer the next generation into zombie consumers, ADHD youngsters is a given. On the other hand, banning human driving altogether would free us up to surf the net on the road. The preferred alternative is quite obvious right?

I'm confused. What does the price of tea in China have to do with an AT being more money than a MT 86 in Canada? lol

You can't enter the cost of a car here, enter exchange rate, and do that comparison. What if the dollar was at par? How much would the same car cost here?


And FWIW, I drive a AT 86. I DD a MT car. If I can't teach my loving wife to drive the MT car I'm giving up on the MT. I hate her not being able to drive one of our cars.
