You can get what is called a hub centric ring to fill the gap if the wheel bore is larger than the hub. Best if you have the right size bore but there is nothing wrong with using the rings either. Any tire place will have them.

Just find a used set of Bugeye WRX wheels!

Yep, storage or long periods in between use is a different deal.

As I mentioned in post #2:

"A battery tender would be a good idea for storage as would a gas stabilizer for longer storage".

That statement should be amended to include long periods if non use.

A lot depends upon whether or not the vehicle is consuming electricity while it is not running.

My understanding was that our cars have lug centric hubs, so that it's more the lug nuts holding the rim to the hub than the center bore. Not sure if it's absolutely critical to have that hub ring (though I did buy a set for my summer wheels)

You are correct it is a lug centric setup. I have still always preferred to use a hub centric ring on wheels with a larger bore just because it lines the wheel up better and take a bit (probably very small bit) of possible shear pressure off the lugs when tightening the nuts. Never was a big fan of letting the chamfer on a lug nut line up a wheel even if lug centric.

Well I thought that we were done that conversation so "out" was the appropriate term. I still absolutely cringe when somebody on a movie or show says "over and out" on the radio. One or the other folks it can't be both.

I'm running stock wheels, well it's a RS 2.0 but it's the same size as the base. Mostly cause I was thinking of using these as winter wheels and getting new ones for the summer but also I'm kind of lazy so I might not.

If you have facebook you can join the local group, it's AK 86 I believe. I would join but I don't use facebook.

check out craigslist, any stock subaru wheel should fit. There are tons of 16" subaru wheels out there being used as winter wheels.

Late to the party, but figured I'd leave this pretty amusing vid here

Also on the topic of the OEM fitted 16" wheels. The Base GT 86 model in AU comes with these Enkei kinda watanabe vibe wheels that actually look really nice in the flesh. I think they were 16x6.5" with 205's. If I were ever in a position of needing winter tires, the OCD in me would compel me to find these for my winter set.

What "why?" said. There are a ton out there, and some might already have lightly used snow tires on them. Savings galore, and from there you can put whatever tires you want on them

As I said the first time I saw that video. "They call that feeble coating snow?"

I love these guys. Back when I had a little tiny doubt about running the car in the winter, I came across their video. Done deal. They really do great work, and aren't just about being pompous goofballs in cars like a certain defunct show and its recently aired spiritual replacement.
