@Dimman holy smokes, 14.5 CR and E85? That sounds like a beast. 340hp crank is a lot even for 9200rpm, I would have guessed around 300hp with E85. Maybe the 3S combustion chamber responds really well to those high comp pistons. But it begs the question, why not do that to a K20? You don't need a Motec, the stock ECU will be just fine with Hondata. |

The reason for the BEAMS was for swapping it into an old RWD Celica or Corolla from the sounds of it. Plus it's in Aus and there seems to be some patriotic duty for them to use domestically developed standalones in their projects. Maybe they're cheaper there?* I've been looking for more info on the numbers but most is old and archived stuff. Guy's name is apparently Glen Booth and I've found references to him making swap parts to put BEAMS into AE86 Corollas, but not much activity past 2012. * Note grammatically correct their/there/they're usage in close proximity. Do I get some kind of internet award for that? Heh...

Some parts are cheaper on this side of the world, some are more expensive. Most guys here prefer to run standalones. They're just better for so many reasons. Especially for conversions.
My Link G4 in the ae86 cost me $1800NZD My Motec in the gt86 cost me $3200NZD My TRD 2way diff cost me $750NZD My work meister wheels I got for $2400NZD Anything made in Aus, NZ, or Japan, we get cheaper than the states. But anything you want from the states, you get raped in the ass, with conversion, shipping, import duty. I just bought a perrin 3" rear muffler. Just the muffler. Cost $1800NZD by time it got to me. My part shop max angle kit, it hasn't arrived yet, but it will be close to $3k NZD by time it lands. So positives and negatives. Anyway, beams stuff.. Here's a vid of my ae86 when the beams was first put in. Internally it was stock. Just had ITB's and a tune and it made 200whp. I've seen him post only a few weeks ago on oldschool.co.nz

I think it would of been cool to offer a 3S in the Toyota, and an FA in the Subaru so you could pick which was more relevant to the heritage, but I'm also an EJ fan....for some reason.

Any word on swap kits for this just yet? From what I've gathered the FA20, 3SGE, 1UZFE, and LSx engines all weigh about the same. With the LSx being the only one that current has a complete swap kit available. I'm displeased that it's this hard for a Toyota purist to not commit sacrilege while trying to go for a cost effective, straightforward swap on a daily driven car. That and the fact that you can get some serious power out these babies with some boost just nakes me want this swap kit to exist even more.
Anybody know a good 6SPD that'll bolt up to the beams engine or would an R154 with a rear differential swap out if the IS300 be more drivable? Anybody think of going with a 2ZZ and stroker kit keeping it all engine? Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk |
