It is an easily debated topic, but that is only YOUR measure of how you're supposed to drive.

It never ends.

While my RWD vs. FWD comment wasn't related to torque it was related to your use of the word "Need". No one is claiming that more torque is required for this car to function properly in the real world, and no one ever claimed that.

Point A to point B driving can be a lot different than

"bumper to bumper, barely moving, or moving at the proper speed limit to avoid accidents."

Not everyone lives in a congested city. For example, my daily commute to work is a 30 minute drive in the hills. This is a big world my friend. You sound like you about 19-20 years old, so in a couple years you will probably come to realize that.

Hey I only said that's how you should drive, a mere suggestion :P, we all are a bunch of entitled pricks anyway. Sounds a lot like a second amendment argument eh

Uh oh, we are word sniping now.

I asked in question format why torque was needed, to the statement that more torque would be good for daily driving.

Drive at the proper speed limit and downshift up a hill if required lol.

How do you know what I sound like at all? Text/pixels do not make sound friend and assuming someones age is a pretty bold and low move when you relate it to how someone communicates. A lot of people say it's a small world btw, you should go talk to them and have a debate about how big or small the world is; your maturity is in question.

Edit: if you even bothered to look my account should show my age, lmao.

Maybe. I also use Petro 94 which apparently reduces the mileage you get per tank by about 50 km. I do 120-140 km on the highway. I also shift at 3K rpm, and I don't know if that is high or is what everyone else shifts at. Don't know how that is compared to others' driving habits

One time I drove for an hour to a city outside of toronto (hamilton) and my mileage improved considerably cause I was on the highway the entire time. So I'm guessing the city driving has a lot to do with it as well. Still, even driving politely my tank mileage is never above 470-480 km before the light comes on. Routine is 450

Also be wary of MPG to MPL

USA: 3.78541 liters to a gallon.
Imperial: 4.54609 liters to a gallon.

So when people are quoting MPG outside of the USA/CANADA its probably 4.54609 which means there MPG will be a good bit more.

Weird. Never knew about the 4.54 one. Here we always use 3.8

Ahh, for such an anemic car, the 86 is sure great fun on a curvy bit of road. The Camry might get there first but then I get to leave it for dead. I feel bad for some of you.

Nice. Throw the insults around. I am sure that it is a good way to prove your point. However, your statement of driving above 4500 is why people say the car needs more torque, which effectively proves my original point. Good job.

Where was the insult? Was it when I called a spade a spade?

Would you start your car from a dead stop in 3rd? If no, why not? Is it because the car isn't in the right state for a start from a dead stop? That's no different than being in the part of the power band where the torque actuality is

still don't understand this complaint...because you have to work the powertrain to ensure it is working at peak mechanical efficiency for torque/power, that means we throw everything out the window and call the engine weak?

can't have it all with these small displacement 4 cyls, it really is one or the other.. strong top end power (much more preferable for our type of car) vs strong low power band (breathless near the redline which is usually lower)

That brings to mind a back-in-the-day Army story about driving in traffic.

It was a cold, snowy day in a small town in Germany, in the late 1960s.

I was commanding a mechanized infantry company (19 APCs) plus a platoon (5) tanks, which was attached. We were moving between maneuver areas, going through this town, when the column stopped.

Since the lead elements were the tanks, I radioed up to the tank platoon leader to find out what the holdup was. The Lt said that an intersection was blocked by a large, white Mercedes and he wouldn't move, because he thinks he has the right of way.

I was steamed ....... I screamed over the radio, something to the effect "you mean to tell me you are driving a 50 ton main battle tank and can't get a POV (Privately Owned Vehicle) to move out of the way of this column ...... "

(my driver later mentioned to me that I had yelled at the young 2nd Lt and used several curse words)

I instructed my driver to quickly move to the head of the column, driving our jeep on the sidewalks.

As we approached the lead tank, the 2nd Lt tank commander had just rotated the main gun and pointed it around and down directly at the Mercedes ...... only a few feet from it's windshield.

Since we always carried a full load of live ammunition ........my heart almost stopped ....... OMG, surely he wouldn't actually fire that 105mm main gun at that car ......

The Mercedes quickly backed up and we moved on......

See where a lot of torque will get you .......
