How is that there is so much mpg difference between manual and auto? 22/30 for manual, and 25/34 for auto.

They're geared differently... the auto has taller ratios (particularly in the higher gears) for better mileage, while the manual has shorter ratios to quicken acceleration through the gears.

I just got the payment calculator to work.
Kinda boring build-your-own as the BRZ doesn't have any options, just 2 trim levels... If you wanna get lost for hours, go bmwusa.com , their cars have an option for everything (which i personally dislike IMO). |

There's a lot to do on the BMW site, but the problem is that adding any options suddenly bumps the MSRP several thousand dollars, especially because most of the good things that you want are bundled into a package with other stuff that you may not want or need. |

So then the auto will be significantly slower. lol, they charge more for a slower car I didn't know there was so much difference.

I applaud subaru for giving the premium BRZ so many goodies standard (HIDs, Navigation, 17" wheels)... Any European car-maker would make these all options that add $$$. If you think about it, the BRZ premium is one hell of a deal. |

Not necessarily, the mpg diff is due to the taller final gear, the 6th gear in the auto is prob much longer than the 6th gear in the manual. I would bet the 0-60 and 1/4 times are pretty similar, especially since the 6AT looks like it handles shifts pretty quickly. |

I wouldn't say it's going to be significantly slower -- I can't remember seeing performance specs, but a few reviews that involved the automatic said that it was still pretty quick, as the lower gears are probably still very similar. But I think it's the higher-speed acceleration in fifth and sixth gears that will be slower, as opposed to it just being slower overall.

Off-topic: Go to Porsche.com, just look at the list of 911's. Then of course each one has a plethora of optional features and add-ons. So many options!

Porsche's are insane when it comes to options. It actually makes buying a pre-owned one difficult because there are so many configurations. I had a guy call from California on an '09 Carrera PDK because it had almost everything he wanted, except for not having power seats (boo-hoo!). Was willing to pay the $2k+ to truck it across the country.
I'm pretty glad there are so few configurations for this car. Keeps costs down, and makes it easier for people to find what they want, especially when looking for a used one a few years down the line. No ugly interior options like gray, blue, red... just black. Hallelujah! I don't even know why I feel so compelled to factory order one, when I can probably find one next year for less $$ on a dealer lot.

Oddly, I was intrigued to see that the C63 AMG with no options at MSRP was actually pretty legit and reasonably equipped (in terms of what you'd expect it to have standard), whereas getting an M3 with no options doesn't even have leather or something. |

German cars in general make everything option so they could pull down the base price. None of the Porsche Cayman models has HID as standard, only the Boxster S has it as standard. And I think it wasn't that long ago HID was optional on 911s, and I mean like couple years ago.
