Oof... I thought I had misread yesterday. Now I realize that both parents passed. Yeah, that's a real shock. Kids are scrambling for sure. NiChrome is hard to get? Same supply chain issues? Might be time to start dumpster diving for old toasters.

Yeah, that is why I waited till after the holidays to start talking with them. The first ones after losing a family member, let alone two, sucks the joy out of them.

From what I understand the specific grade we needed is a little less common since we are running 1700f continuous, they use N7 and it has some special coating to keep it from oxidizing at temp as quickly. They were sourcing from a supplier who got it from France and overseas shipping is a nightmare. I have multiple shipments right now that have been in port since early to mid November and I haven't seen them yet.

EVERYTHING is getting hard to get. We are running hand to mouth for castings since the refineries can't get enough iron ore to even start refining so the casting process is way late and since the trucking industry is so backed up even when they do get made it is difficult to get them to us.
We are literally one windy day or closed road away from shutting down assembly plants and there is d1ck all we can do about it.
It is supposed to get even worse!

What surprises me is I am still able to easily get spring steel. I figured we would be SOL on that.

We are really screwed on electronics. I have been scrambling to find substitute parts this last year. I have some components that are at 18 month lead times. BASF gave me a heart attack 6 weeks ago when they discontinued one of our resins. They called me Monday and told me they will be making it again so I only had to make due with a mild stroke.

Right now a 30% price increase is pretty standard for manufactured metal parts along with about 5-6 week lead time and another 4-6 weeks to get it plated or powder coated. I have a lot of stuff that is 80-100% increase.

Hopefully with Chinese new year coming up that two week break will help get the ports cleared somewhat.

On the plus side of this our scrap is reaching values I would never dreamed of! I scrapped out about 20 tons of old equipment just be Christmas and the money we got for it was almost embarrassing.

Same here, we have probably scrapped around 6 tons last month and have another 3 or 4 that need tossed in just patterns we no longer use. I have a whole wall of old product we inherited that I want to scrap. I am giving the sales guys 3 months to try to get rid of it before I toss it.
