I like it and I'm not usually a Bimmer guy. I like how they went with a soft top. Power hardtops are lame in my opinion

That BMW hasn't announced a vehicle weight is worrisome. Were it impressively light they'd be bragging, so fact that they don't mention it means, to me, that it's heavy.

Lack of manual is a non-starter for me.

It's a BMW. The last time they made something impressively light was when airbags weren't mandatory yet.

I like BMWs, hell I've had 5 of them out of 10 cars, and still have an E90 335i. But they are porky.

LOL

Current generation M3 is impressively light IMO. It's not light absent comparison, but for it's power and size it is.

3540 lbs is not light, not at all, especially for how much effort they put into making it lighter. The last light-ish M3 was the E36, around 3150lbs.

You're comparing a car made in 1995 to a car that's almost 25 years newer. How many RWD 2+2 cars can you buy in today's age that make over 400hp yet weigh less than the M3? I'm not saying the M3 is a lightweight car, I'm just saying relative to other cars in it's class, it is one of the lightest if not the lightest available.

It's easily the lightest car in its class. That doesn't make it light though. As far as lightweight cars go, besides the Alpina and Lotus, there's the twins and the Miata, and that's really it. It's really a sad landscape for those like us that appreciate a lightweight car with great handling.

Shmee did say the weight was 3,300lbs or 1,500kg. hopefully that is true, but here is a look under the hood.

I know right? That's what I'm saying, which apparently went above the previous 2 posters' heads. It's roughly the same size and more powerful than the E39 M5, and is 500 lb lighter. What else can you want, given the size of the car.

I doubt I'm alone in wishing the M3 was still the same size it was during the E36 years, but BMW, like most others, loves to increase it's cars dimentions. Apply the technology from the F30 M3 to an E36 sized M3 and it's possible that car would be sub 3000 lb.

Yay hypotheticals!
