Hamilton did real good going from 20th to 3rd. I was rooting for Williams and Bottas, To bad about Massa, but he did it to himself.

I missed the race today. I was surprised, but also not so surprised at when I saw where Hammy finished. But I did not watch the race so I don't know what that process looked like. If it was effortless or not.

You didn't miss much. As Luca di Montezemolo said recently, today's F1 drivers are essentially taxi pilots conforming to absurd fuel economy regs, but you've heard me say the same before.

There's a reason besides age that Bernie Eccelstone may sell the commercial rights soon. The FIA is completely misguided in their current direction and with Jean Todt at the helm, no relief will be coming soon. The half empty stands at the German GP are the canary in the coal mine.

However, the horse is dead so I'll leave it to others to justify irrelevant, esoteric technology in the name of progress. Sad to see ideology trumping sport.

If you get tickets from the COTA website they're only $169...$181 I think with all ticketmasters thievery- er...I mean "fees"

I put the fault on Massa. Sure it was a racing incident I but I believe in the lightning theory:

"Even if it's not your fault, it's your fault."

In the road racing forum there have been discussions about driving on the "wrong side of the slip angle curve" and I can use that as a metaphor to say that Massa races on the wrong side of "risk/reward curve" when he's next to other drivers. Most of his incidents that are not his fault, kind of are his fault.

On this one, you're starting a race, there's lots of cars all compacted at the apex of the first corner and that means you CANNOT go from the outside back down to the apex and expect nobody to be occupying that portion of space and time. When he made contact with Perez on the last lap a few races back.. they might put the blame on Perez but Massa made that move closer than was needed.

If you ever wonder why some drivers have terrible luck and others never seem to, it primarily rests with their level of awareness, their respect for physics and how they approach the risk/reward curve. I think Massa thinks he's better than he is and he's not adhering to at least 2 of those 3 things because he's driving beyond his talent.

I think the term "rolling chicane" more aptly applies.

Having Maldonado on track reminds me of the obstacles in the movie "Death Race."

Have a feeling that Hamilton will not run through the field like last week as that fire probably cooked a whole lotta stuff and I'll be really surprised if he doesn't have problems tomorrow. Those F1 mechanics can work wonders, but a fire is a whole different can of worms.......was interesting that once they showed the initial fire on track and the fire marshalls putting it out, there weren't any replays of the car being dragged back to the pits.

Shortly after the last shot of it, I think Will Buxton mentioned it had the cover over it already and was smouldering from underneath, heh. He'll have a much harder time, but more so because of the nature of the track I think than the car itself. I'm betting short of a failure, he'll still be top 5. There's also the chance of rain to really mix things up.
