Not really, just change the piece of cardboard under her car more often -

Well, I picked up my car last Friday (18th) car ran great until today..... on my way to school at 6am. Activated my cruise control when suddenly the cruise control light turned yellow, traction control light turned on, and check engine light turned on. Dropped the car off at home. Came home after school to plug the scanner in. Turns out I had a few CEL for EVAP as well. The tech left some EVAP hoses unplugged in two locations. And have two CEL under the ABS module... yay

I thought Ford's came that way?

I've had my brz for over 8 years and I've never had a problem with the valve springs. I street race it and autox it and am heavily modded NA. I DON'T TRUST THE DEALERSHIP TO TOUCH MY MOTOR. So yup, not taking it in.

I'd hope we can get an engineer to do some Q&A about warranty repair process, Subaru of America could help owners out a bit with some dialogue. I'd like to be assured my dealership will meet the technical specialty

My questions are:

- Can I take my car to any authorized Subaru dealership, or do I have to go to the dealership where the car was sold?

- Is there a Subaru master technician working on the engine rebuilds?

I'm not Subaru but some of this is relatively easy:

You should be able to take your car to any dealership to have the work done. They can't force you to go back to the original (what if you bought the car in Alaska but moved to Maine?) Of course Subaru dealerships aren't as common as Toyota, so there may be only one within what some folks would consider reasonable driving distance.

The work instructions indicate it should be done by a senior technician trained on the procedure but if that is a concern you should talk to the shop where you are going to have to work done.

Not Subaru, but I’ve worked across the country in 3 shops, all the same brand.

Any dealership can work on any car under warranty.

Certified is certified. There has always been “base”, something in the middle, then “master”. Base is a handful of online classes and you’re good to go. The majority of guys working in shops went through UTI or an equavilant. Whether that helps or not I’m not sure.

Some things do require certain classes, warranty alignments, certain hybrid repairs, warranty windshields, etc.

Engine work is pretty straight forward. There’s no diagnosis involved, just follow the work instructions and put it back together.

Also, a quick explanation of flat rate pay. Subaru says the job pays 12 hours. The tech gets paid 12 hours to do the work. If it takes 10 he makes an extra 2 hours. If it takes 20 he works 8 hours for free. If the car has an issue after the work, it is a “come back” and the tech works on it for free.

The tech has to bablance speed and quality of work. That’s flat rate. If he’s good, the quality of work is very high and gets done quickly. If he’s not, one or the other suffers.

The dealerships work on thousands and thousands of cars a year. They know what they are doing or there would be broken down cars littering the roads all the time. Most of the horror stories you hear on forums have little or no basis in reality and are generated by guys that think a greasy thumbprint left on their intake constitutes calling techs morons. Like everything else you just never hear about the 99.999% of the service work that is done perfectly. The instructions provided are so detailed that a person that has never touched an engine before could probably successfully complete the work so any trained tech with a couple of years behind them can most certainly do it just fine. Don't let the car snobs scare you.

@mswbrz yeah bro its not like you use that car as a daily or nothin just saying.

Maybe they'll put in an "aftermarket motor?" if there's a problem with their install. Feels good knowing I'm in good hands.

Got my car back after the recall. No additional labor for sparkplugs, no additional labor for dealing with the oil cooler. New clutch and TOB installed - clutch isn't dragging, feels good and has better bite /pedal feel - I recommend the Exedy stage 1 clutch to anyone looking for a mild upgrade that works with oem flywheel. I took photos of the parts they removed - plugs were awful, Tob is awful (had no signs of failing and was working fine). Clutch looks perfect so I'm keeping my old disc. They drove it 8 miles in their testing. My rental was free, no questions asked, and the dealership said their work is covered for 1 year, unlimited miles.

Great experience overall, I'll report back if anything related to this causes me to return for them to investigate/remedy.

I see nothing wrong with any of those parts. 100% normal. The replacement parts will look exactly like those in a few thousand miles.

Haha, awful dirty. Not awful functioning. Should've been more specific.

lol... Doh!

I wonder if that clutch dust doesn't exacerbate the wear between the quill and bushing. Mixes with the grease and makes a gritty mess. I hate the design but both Toyota and Subaru seem to be ok with it.
