Wheels + Tires
Today I mounted the Enkei RPF1s (17x7.5) and Yokohama Neova AD08Rs (235/40/17) for SCCA SOLO this weekend! They are definitely sticky! :-0

I finished my carbon fiber fender vents and installed them today. I ended up going with a smaller mesh screen and painted it gold to match my wheels.

Mind sharing some more details? Car audio really isn't my thing, but I'm intrigued.

The car's standard audio system is a 600 watt 13 channel harman/kardon that, on paper. should sound terrific but in reality it's a disaster. Honestly, the stock FRS system is better sounding. Do a Google search for "S550 Sound" and you'll see what I mean. Because the MB's audio is completely integrated into the car, the only practical way to do any sound processing is to use the aux-in jack. The EQ mod cost under $100 (for the equalizer and related cables etc) and around $300 if you add the outboard DAC). It's become a very popular mod on the MB forums. I ran this system for several months while researching a more comprehensive fix. I ended up replacing the Mercedes' factory speakers with high end Focals and as a result the hardware for the mod was sitting in the garage when we brought the FRS home. Since it had a glove box 12v and an aux-in, I popped it in there. The EQ gives you seven bands of frequency adjustment. In the FRS, it lets you more closely tailor the bass to the point where it's full but doesn't bottom out the front door woofers. I pushed the mids down quite a bit to create a "notch" that gives the impression of a larger soundstage, and then brought some extra ultra highs in for detail. The sound is quite a bit more smooth, detailed and refined than stock. (I just ordered the OEM Audio Plus upgrade for the FRS. Once that's in I can tell how much bang for the buck that $1400 upgrade is versus just the EQ mod. I think you could probably get away with a small powered sub in the trunk and the EQ mod and be pretty happy) This is a toolless install that takes about ten minutes. You can assemble it on your kitchen table and pop it in the car. The schematic below includes a small headphone amp that was necessary in the Mercedes but not in the FRS. It also includes the outboard DAC which I highly recommend if you have your music on an I Device that can be omitted as well. You'd replace it with a standard Y cable, stereo 3.5mm male to stereo RCA to the Main In on the EQ. On the output side, from the Front Out of the EQ you'd use the same cable and run the output to the car's Aux In jack. Here's a parts source list: [ame]http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/ref=gno_listpop_wi?ie=UTF8&requiresSignIn=1&tag=vi glink20394-20[/ame] Last edited by FRS Dad; 08-09-2014 at 07:26 PM. |
