If people are gonna buy this car for practicality over a miata, well that's missing the point. You dont' buy the car for practicality. Only if you're in the market for a BRAND new car would any of this make any sense to pay the $24000. Mazdaspeed 3 is only greater in power, but it doesn't make the car better. Power ain't the issue. Its the weight. GTi's weakness is weight. The FWD can be overcome by proper understanding of driving techniques and suspension setup. Although the GTI will Never be able to drift... As for the s2000, it is a greater car as i can tell in almost every way to the Scion FRS, except it can't carry extra rims/tires in the trunk. If you want to add another weakness is that it isn't a hard top. Other than that...i'm willing to overcome those weaknesses for over $10000 difference to the New Scion FRS. Give it like 3 years, if the earth is still around and the FRS should be around $15-13k.

Setting a slightly higher MSRP now and then reducing it a bit next year is much easier than having to raise it when the value of the dollar drops. |

Another thought to consider is it's getting harder to find clean/stock example of a S2000; additionally, it'll command a premium price since most are beaten to sh*t, modded hellaflushed, or have accidents, etc. I think most people like myself would rather have no issues with buying a used vehicle and the added factors above. |

If you REALLy needed 3 seats...you don't buy this car. You would buy something with actual seats. But as I understand it, people are compromising.
The only advantage this car has is light weight. If you don't mind extra weight you have other cars that either has more power, better interior quality, has ACTUAL rear seats, and RWD.

cept S2000 isn't new, so its already aged..i don't fit in a S2000, i don't want a soft top. and i do like how sporty the FR-s is yet it still has a trunk..i think its a great car, and probably won't really take off with the intended audience until 3-4 years down the road |

At that price I HAVE to finance. If I'm financing I might as well look at the more expensive competitors that I couldn't buy in cash (mainly 128i). I think this is running through alot of peoples minds now... Does this car at this price have more utility then a much nicer car at 8k extra? |

As expected, affordable but not cheap. 25.000 $ in US, 30.000 € in EU. I am glad in EU the Subaru will be cheaper than the Toyota.
In fact the car is a bit expensive for me, just imagine taking deliverey, and stripping it down the next day, welding a roll-cage, putting bucket seats, 6 point harness, changing rims, exhaust, upgrading brakes. A least another 5K, so I'd love the car to 5K cheaper. However it is yet to early to judge whether it is cheap or not, we have first to see a comparision to its direct rivals: VW Golf GTI, Hyundai Genesis Coupé 2.0T, Renault Mégane RS and Mazda MX-5. I think it will still be the secand fastest behind the Renault and be the most fun ahead of the Miata. |
