Yes, this forum is a type of social media. Yes, I participate here to some degree off and on, as well as one or two other forums, although less and less in those other two lately. I find that the people I see every day in real life (and yes, in person interactions ARE more "real" and more healthy), whether they are complete strangers, casual or nodding acquaintances, or close friends and family, are MUCH less polarized, didactic, and unappeallingly one-sided/one-dimensional/single-or-close-minded/insulting than the way people present themselves and their opinions online, via "social" media. This is one of THE great ills of our society; via the instancy/virility of online communications, the most polarized or outrageous acts, opinions, and thoughts are the ones that promulgate the fasted and the farthers, and dominate discussions, thereby making it seem as if they are typical examples of the way the majority of people feel, think, and act. They simply are not.

When I want to keep in touch with my family and friends, which is often, I call them. When I don't have time to call, I write a quick email and, if really necessary, I text although i don't like that much either.

I had a Facebook account for a few months years ago, and closed it when I got sick of seeing a lot of people I respected treat each other terribly online. Never looked back. Never used Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or whatever else is out there. The good they do, in my opinion, is FAR outweighed by the harm they do. Especially in terms of Twitter and Facebook, it isn't enough to say, "It's all in how you use it," because the owners and moderators of those mediums are inarguably guiding what THEY wish the conversation to be nationally and globally, regardless of room for debate. At this point, it is no longer simply left to those using the platforms; the platforms themselves are guiding entities.
I feel that preferred communication depends upon the individual rather than something uniform. My entire family seems to prefer communicating via text more than anything else. Likely because we all get busy and that way we can respond when we have time as opposed to stopping what we're doing. You could probably slap generational differences around who prefers what if you really wanted to, but I never cared about such things.

I can completely respect the sentiment around social media in general, though, as it was similar to what I was expressing in my initial post. I do have a Facebook account, but it is only as a placeholder as an ex made one for me many years ago after we broke up claiming we were engaged... I'd say it was a long story, but that pretty much sums it up.

Almost everyday I see this white Toyota MR-S, which is modded lightly & looking good. So I check to see how much MR-S is in this current market. Damn… it cost more than same yr Porsche Boxster!

A clean one is about 9-10K here. The price on turbo SW20's is really insane.

Damn that is crazy. I do see the MR-S for more in excellent shape around here but even a really clean one is around10K.

Here is one on FB about 3-4 hours from me. Super clean garage kept, 99k miles for 9500.
