I drove from the Nevada border to Sacramento and saw loads and loads of cool roads. There are plenty in California but you just have to drive a bit further to get to them.

True. Lots of great roads here, so there's that. Just have to drive them either before 6am or after 8pm otherwise you're pulling over every 5 minutes to make a gap (since nobody ever gets over).

In my Army Reserve unit command, I had this “soldier” who decided not to attend any more reserve meetings. Note: back in the early 70s, some men would join the Army Reserve to avoid active duty (and Vietnam).
After he was declared AWOL, he was on the verge of being classified as a deserter. His squad leader convinced his platoon leader who convince me, that if we could find him …… he could talk him into coming back.

So, one fine Saturday morning, while assembled at the reserve center in San Jose, we (the squad leader, the platoon leader and myself) mounted an M151 Jeep and headed for the Santa Cruz mountains to find our missing soldier.

All we had to go on was that he had a PO Box in Boulder, CA. So, we snooped around Boulder and found out that he was likely holed up in a hippie commune, in the mountains outside of Boulder.

In full uniform and armed, we stormed the “camp”. Needless to say, those half naked, dope smoking dudes and dudettes, were quite surprised to see us. I told them we were looking for a Army deserter. They were not cooperative in turning him over, so, I explained what it meant for a civilian to harbor an Army deserter during wartime (now, that was a bluff ….).

They decided to turn him over, so we escorted him back to the reserve center for disciplinary action.

Yep, those Santa Cruz mountains have some interesting driving roads.

Oh, we did not crash …… only because I wasn’t driving.

THE END

There are still plenty of hippies in Boulder Creek. I have a friend who lives there and I swear he has to get a permit from the town officials each year to NOT grow pot.

I COMMITTED THE CARDINAL SIN TODAY. rULE #1 OF MY CAR: UNLESS IT'S ROAD TRIP RULES, do not EAT IN MY CAR. Sorry for the caps lock insanity. Don't know what happened. No eating in my car.

I was in a hurry to get home and ate a tuna sub in my car. I did not crash. I just ate. I'll save HUMFRZ the trouble and just get it out of the way.

I feel like I'm the only owner here who doesn't sweat the interior/exterior condition of my car(s). I used to regularly eat jack n' the box burritos on the way to work. Messy to say the least.

I like how someone other than me has one set of rules for normal driving and another set for road trips.

We eat in the car, but only like coffee and Danish on the start of our drives.
Last drive we stopped at a bakery in Ben Lomond. My wife got this pastry thing that had so many flaky layers it exploded in the car. Took me like an hour to vacuum it up. She's worth it, and it was really good.

Oh yea, drove home from work. Did not crash.
