We are at a turning point in humanity. I've always been all about individuality and free market capitalism. However the rise of automation and A.I. will eventually replace all of our jobs. Starting with the most mundane, but eventually everything that we need could be provided to us by machines far more effcient than we will ever be. This makes things like UBI that I, even 5 or 10 years ago would have scoffed at as socialist/ communist. And this isn't meant in anyway to lead to a political discussion. What I'm saying is we are replacing our want/need to work at an exponential rate. In many ways this is great for us. However, we have to redefine our purpose. Here in the U.S. (an many other countries) we define ourselves by what we do. I mean look at my nickname. I'm a pilot, I fly planes, my friends even call me Captain sometimes, lol. Planes can already fly themselves, I get paid mostly as an overseer, customer service, and primarily to deal with emergency situations that the systems don't fully correct for on their own... YET. (Well that and the planes I fly don't takeoff and land by themselves yet but some do). I've spent most of my life looking for jobs that pay well but also are fun. I work insane amounts of hours and it pays off monetarily but there is plenty of life to enjoy without working. Now all apocalypse/war against the machine or A.I. aside (although we will probably integrate ourselves into it anyway and become the A.I. ourselves), there is a philosophical problem with have to deal with... How we decide to redefine ourselves and the old who gets what. I think it will be more freedom in the long run if we do it right. We just have to learn to find things to do with all the extra time we will have. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Right now it's scary because none of want to be useless. We fear being poor because of not having a job. But if the machines do everything for us... we don't NEED to have a job. We do have to rewrite what spending our time doing is worth though.

2. When we get to the point where machines can do everything, we will have a much more difficult philosophical problem to solve and that is "what is a person"? Most human law is written such that it applies to people/persons that are sentient and assuming they are of sound mind. Is an AI exempt from those laws? If they are declared not exempt are they therefore a person? Will making such a 'person' do work for you without compensation be slavery? Is slavery still against the law in that situation? Etc. 3. You don't need AI for an aircraft to land itself. |

It is never the shortest (as in quickest) line as far as I can tell, and time is only money when someone is paying you. All other time is, well, just time.

Oh whoa. That’s similar to the Amazon Go markets. Though their system is creepier. You scan your Prime membership as you walk in and then it knows what you take off the shelf. Then you just walk out and it charges you automatically.

Something I've learned long ago is that humans are lazy. We will on average put the least amount of effort as possible into anything.
The main reason to work is to make money. If robots do all the work, best we can do is all become janitors and maintance people, which are not and likely never will be highly paid positions. Aka, the movie Elsium without the rich ring satellite. Yea, that got dark quick... This is generally where a universal income, or "everyone gets a paycheck from the government" comes in. But refer to my first point. We saw it in the covid recovery stuff. People weren't showing up to work after they got their check because they didn't need to. I don't believe robots will take over as much as they could simply because we have a population problem that needs solving first.

Go stores are more like markets where you can get premade deli sandwiches, cold drinks, some produce, etc.
