See, you're basing this strictly on performance. There are many cars that do many things better than the Corvette, but they might not be as good in performance numbers.

I know this is a site for a car that is designated to be a good track car so there will be some bias towards sports cars, but there are plenty of cars that are better and/or I would rather own.

So true, vettes have always been "numbers" cars, but generally terrible to live with on a day to day basis.

They're the answer to "how can I go as fast as possible for as little money as possible?" That's not always the question people are asking, sometimes they want refinement, looks, exclusivity, comfort, a decent interior, etc.

Despite it being slower by a wide margin I'd take a Cayman GTS over a Z06 almost every time.

Having owned both a Cayman R and a C6 Z06, I can tell you that I would also select the Cayman GTS over the Z06, but that isn't because it is terrible to live with on a day to day basis, it isn't. It has a relatively large trunk, the seats were comfy, the suspension wasn't too harsh, and it got decent gas mileage. The only downside is that with the really tall gearing and the difficulty of putting 505 rwhp down to the ground, you don't really get to give it the beans in a daily driving situation. If you rev out first gear provided you feather the throttle enough to maintain traction, then you are doing 70 mph. This new Z06 is just going to amplify that.

Can you really flog on a Cayman, even a base model, on public roads? Sure, you can hold down the accelerator for longer because it has less power, but the Cayman is already pretty darn fast. There is something to be said for having more power than you can use. I bet it will be a total blast. I bet they'll also end up wrapped around phone poles on a regular basis, just like the other torque monster, the Viper. For the record, a driver did wrap his Viper around a phone pole on my street. On a straight. Hehehe.

I believe that would be Chevy (among many others), by making the Pilot Sport Cups the factory tire for the ZR1.

From what I can find, the Viper that holds the 7:12 on the 'Ring ran Pilot Sport Cups, which are the exact same tires Chevy supplies on the ZR1 (and I have no idea what a "PSSC" is).

PSSC. Pilot Super Sport Cups. Viper is Dot R compound, ZR-1 is road legal PSSC Zero Pressure. Not sure how much different.
