I'd definitely recommend one of the HoD events at AMP. The track is great fun and you get more track time than you'd expect out of a 1 day event. Having a coach/student combo that drive the same car is also ideal especially if you're new to the track.

Watched your videos Friday night before my LeMons race at Barber last weekend. It was a great time, and I can't wait to go back in 1.5 weeks to race there again. The tow means I always prefer to do 2 day weekends, but I think I will be hitting up Sebring, Road Atlanta, and definitely Daytona this year.

Cool! I'm glad you could get something from my videos. I didn't know you raced in LeMons. I follow Barber MSP on Facebook and it looked like a hell of a wet race last weekend. It's a completely different track when it's dry!

Let me know when you're coming to RA. I'd love to spectate one of those races.

It was my first time. It rained hard for the final 2 hours or so and during the time we had to pack up. I spent the 5 hour drive home in my soaked racing suit. I did around 1.5 hours of that hard rain stint till my windshield was so fogged I couldn't see anymore, so I pitted and we threw some more RainX and Anti-Fog on and threw our checkered flag driver in to finish the last couple laps. We didn't have a great weekend in our 4 cylinder Foxbody Mustang finishing 50th out of 68 only spending about 7.8 hours on track out of 15 hours of racing. I did have a great time, and I got between 2 and 3 hours of that track time in both the dry and the very wet, so I am ready to race my SpecE30.

I keep hearing the same thing about the LeMons races. They are treacherous and difficult but still great fun. Last March my Dad ran a PCA sprint race at Road Atlanta in some steady rain and had the same issues. We ended up velcro-ing a little defroster unit on top of the dash (oem heater core was blocked off) which was powered by the cig outlet and that made a small window is visibility through all the fog, and he still had to hold a squeegee between his legs and use it every lap on the back straight, lol. The GoPro footage was pretty funny to watch but it was certainly not fun racing like that.

I haven't run with Chin before. I know they ask for a small yearly membership fee. Between the 100% discount that Hooked on Driving gives to instructors and the 75% discount that PCA gives, I have plenty of options through the year at my local tracks. I'm pretty closely knit with the Peachstate PCA track committee, so for me it's not just about the track time, it's about the good times with the friends I've made over the years.

I think my longest trip this year may be Roebling at some point if I can work it in. I've been wanting to get back there since my first ever DE.

Yeah it's a $50 a year membership, but it also pays for itself as they have a ton of discounts (Discovery Parts, Cobalt Friction, just to name a few).

In fact, you'll save almost $100 in brake pads per purchase through Cobalt Friction as a Chin Instructor, as Cobalt Friction gives big discounts to Chin members and instructors.

I think that's a big part of the track clubs that you run with; I only run with Chin as it's the same people all the time, and it's just a big family/friend reunion at each event. It really does become a close knit "club" after a while.

I'm really looking forward to that aspect of it all. I'd like to make some friends who are into the sport/hobby. Heck, I'd even settle for some friends who are into cars. It seems everyone here in the south is just crazed with football

I agree. I have only run wih NASA which is also a close knit group in the 3 regions I have run with. They also get the "Sparkle Pony" discount with Ron @ Discovery Parts. If you are only doing track days / HPDEs, then I would say go with which ever group gets you the most track time for your dollar. If you want to do more than that, then I would gravitate towards NASA and the Time Trial / Racing programs.

Kind of an inside joke in NASA Southeast. You had to mention "Sparkle Pony" to get your discount from Ron:

Haha I'll definitely use that when I see him up at AMP soon. I need a new helmet for next year. My SA 2005 expires at the end of the year.
