I wish that car had stayed local for a while longer so I could size the BRZ up. There is a 370Z in our area, and I plan to codrive it for head to head comparison

I still want to see the 370z/RX8 comparison plays out but I have plans to prep mine too far this year.
John why are you not building an STX car out of it already

Then for one year that will show up consistently all across the nation and especially at tours/pros/nats and the 370z will be moved via the 12-month rule.
Chase the rabbit, there will be more than 3 trophy spots at Nats and many tours, and that extra effort to catch the uncatchable will pay dividends in 2015 with total speed in development. |

My thoughts on tires thus far, please add input where I could be wrong... RS3s: Great grip when hot (~180*F) but soft sidewalls makes them less than optimal for camber challenged cars. My own experience is that I had to run them at 40psi just to keep off the sidewalls on the front. Rivals: Great tire every where but at Lincoln, the one place it matters most. ZIIs: Don't require as much heat as the RS3s and have much stiffer sidewalls making them better on cars with less than optimal camber. Good on the surface at Lincoln That is how I came to the decision to run the ZIIs this year. Temp problems on hot days can be, at least partially, remedied with a water sprayer. I have always felt like it is easier to get heat out of the tires between runs than to get heat in them. I would love to hear some more thoughts on the subject since there doesn't seem to be a clear choice for CS this year, at least not on this board. |

You summed up my tire thoughts exactly. I LOVED my RS3s, ran them for 2 years (Mazda 3 for 6 months then BRZ for 18) but they just aren't stiff enough. They are epic in Florida's hot summers.
But I'm now on the ZII and love it. Im sure this summer will be hard with sprays on every run though. Rivals have been mediocre on this car everywhere. And they chunk badly when overheated, and Florida overheats badly. And 100% useless on a BRZ at Nationals. Sooooo much oversteer and collects OPR as fast as a Hoosier!

235/40/17 The math says its shorter than 215/45 but it's EVER so slightly taller than my 215 RS3s

Thanks Henry.
I had asked the tire installer if they would install this size and they "recommended" against it. I didn't push it. In CS, the extra width helps. Now if I push it will they install? That and are you running a dedicated set for autocross or do you use them for DD? Just trying to determine my mod path. If I buy wheels then I will go STX. sigh!!!! You can DD them, they just dont go for a lot of miles.
I don't DD them. I have a second car and a second set of wheels for the BRZ. I occasionally street drive them but mostly just to-and-from events. 0 problems with running 235 from a safety side, they just don't 'recommend' it because they deal with the average Joe's Camry every day, not someone who bought a car with a purpose. These guys just know a book tells them no. And in some crappy 600tw All Season that they sold to your Aunt Susie for her Altima, 235s on that 7" would be a bad thing as they are too soft. This is a different case entirely.
