Haven't been driving enough to crash. Though, I did make a 4 hour round trip drive with the girlfriend on the weekend. Almost rear ended someone when they changed into the lane I was in. They were going 85, I was going 119, and the speed limit was 100. That was scary as hell.

Did one of my regular loops yesterday; up HWY17 to Bear Creek Road to HWY 9. Stopped for a bit in Boulder Creek. Back down HWY 9 to Saratoga. Got a little loose on a couple wet spots in the shady areas. It was a beautiful sunny 68 degree day. Did not crash.

All I could think was "don't hit the brake, don't hit the brakes, don't hit the brakes". If I had then it would have ended badly I am sure.

Drove up north this weekend, 8hour round trip in the same day, 4 hours of fun twisties total.
Started to get slippery, but I gotta improve my time on public roads, so I drove fast couple turns were probably not as safe as they should be. I also tried to pass someone, the guy I'm trying to pass matches my speed up to 145kph in a 90kph, and then a wild car appears in the opposite direction. Slowed down, guy next to me also slows down, he's clearly trying to get me to crash. I accelerate and safely merge into my lane. It was very close, maybe another 3-4 seconds and I would have had a head on collision. I did not crash, no one died. I hate retarded drivers though, let me pass you and I'll go on my merry way and you can keep doing speed limit. |

Would have been a blast if I did it on purpose. As it was, not so fun.

In my Army Reserve unit command, I had this “soldier” who decided not to attend any more reserve meetings. Note: back in the early 70s, some men would join the Army Reserve to avoid active duty (and Vietnam). After he was declared AWOL, he was on the verge of being classified as a deserter. His squad leader convinced his platoon leader who convince me, that if we could find him …… he could talk him into coming back. So, one fine Saturday morning, while assembled at the reserve center in San Jose, we (the squad leader, the platoon leader and myself) mounted an M151 Jeep and headed for the Santa Cruz mountains to find our missing soldier. All we had to go on was that he had a PO Box in Boulder, CA. So, we snooped around Boulder and found out that he was likely holed up in a hippie commune, in the mountains outside of Boulder. In full uniform and armed, we stormed the “camp”. Needless to say, those half naked, dope smoking dudes and dudettes, were quite surprised to see us. I told them we were looking for a Army deserter. They were not cooperative in turning him over, so, I explained what it meant for a civilian to harbor an Army deserter during wartime (now, that was a bluff ….). They decided to turn him over, so we escorted him back to the reserve center for disciplinary action. Yep, those Santa Cruz mountains have some interesting driving roads. Oh, we did not crash …… only because I wasn’t driving. THE END humfrz |
