I thought only emergency vehicles were allowed flashing lights, especially red or blue. Seems like risk for potential headache for not much reason.

Also I think third brake light has to be mounted higher than the rear left/right brake lights.

Flashing breaklights seem to pass muster in most areas. I think they're a really good idea in motorcycles, but they can be very annoying on a car's center breaklight.

I'm working on a circuit for my "Rear Fog Light". It will include an accelerometer so it will only come on during rapid deceleration, and flash once deceleration reaches a certain point.

For road use that is an exceptionally bad idea which I hope you don't follow through with.

We dont get ticketed for minor things like this.... But they are somewhat onto the 3 light brake stuff... If i could work the rear fog light i would be able to get away with the deleting the window brake light in Western Australia...

Question is for the GT86, GTS86 is the light already functional but not wired up?

Explain? A pulsing brake light is proven to reduce accidents why would this be a bad idea?

Correct, multiple studies have proven that a brake light that initially flashes gets drivers attention more quickly than standard brake lights and therefore reduces the likelyhood of rear end collisions. NHTSA & NTSB have both suggested that the current high mount stop light requirement be amended to require a flashing high mount stop light but it has not yet been adopted.

Brake lights that initially flash then illuminate solid when braking are not illegal in any state.

I anxiously await the day all cars are mandated to have obnoxious strobing lights every time someone taps the brakes. Not to mention competing with emergency lights. I've read these trials they've done with flashing brake lights, having participants sit in a parking lot unaware and then flashing a strobe light on a car down the lot hardly seems like a conslusive test to gauge the worthiness of creating an environment where all road going vehichles have them all the time. People notice strobing lights, sure, but it seems like a pretty big jump to suddenly say now it is a good idea to require all cars to have strobe lights every time you hit the brakes.

If you are talking about an emergency braking feature, that seems more warranted, but somehow I doubt that's something many people have the skill to custom fabricate into their accessory light. Hooking up some programmed accelerometers or tapping into your abs system is probably going to end up a disaster. Not only that but a few one off cars that use this feature are far more likely to confuse people than to help them avoid an accident.

This. I know Audis have their rear fogs lit up when they have their front fogs lit up.

I do see your point in how this could be an issue with people who are too brake-happy... Could get REALLY annoying! But there's also way too many people who just don't bother paying attention when driving.
