Calm down? Did I appear agitated in my post somehow? Did I freak out and not realize it? Is it so bad that when I see 4 almost exactly the same posts nearly in a row I point it out in a calm manner! Perhaps if people did actually read the thread before posting ...

Do us all a favor and go buy a Prius.Last night was the first time I was able to test out the new intake and tune. I was able to hit 137 (digital speedo) on a dead straight flat. In my case it was at one in the morning on a rarely used toll road, didn't see another single car for over 20 minutes. There is nothing wrong with driving a car at these speeds when it's safe and prudent to do so. Especially a car like ours that's designed with a low CG and wonderful suspension. People in Germany drive at speeds in excess of 170 MPH daily, during more congested traffic, without issue. The difference is Germans actually follow simple things like staying right unless passing, keeping safe distances and using turn signals. The only problem with driving in America is the other drivers not paying attention, not our cars that were MEANT to be driven like this. You say go to a race track, I say there isn't a track nearby that would EVER allow me to reach these speeds before having to brake for a corner. As a tax payer and someone who frequents the toll road 3 times a week, I pay for these roads. I'll use them how I want to.

Ha, ironic. This morning on my way to work I graced 145 downhill. Bone stock. It got pretty sketchy so I let off. Car doesn't have much grunt at those speeds anyway.
Anybody else "break" the window seal going that fast? It was so loud in the cabin. My bmw was whisper quiet inside at ~155 aside from the exhaust. They both have frameless windows. |

You're missing the point. It's about being safe and prudent and that includes making sure there aren't any state police near by. Not that they are ever out at that time of the night on that section of the highway. Even if they were, the three mile stretch I'm talking about have no area for a cop to pull over and hide. It's a divided highway with 5ft dirt berms on either side. The only person who could be injured or killed is me. And it's worth it, what's the point of owning a sports car if you don't open it up every now and then.
This thread was about how fast have you gone, not how fast on a track day. What this thread isn't about, is a bunch of pansies telling us all what we already know. We are well aware of the posted speed limits and the judicial risks we take with driving with excessive speed. We know we will not pass go and not collect $200. We will be arrested and our cars will be impounded. It's worth the risk. Again, safe and prudent boys and girls. And remember, speed limits aren't about safety. They were put into place when cars where much more dangerous to drive then today's machines. But the limits have not increased with increased performance. Speed limits are about one thing. Revenue generation. |

On a highway where it is not expected, it is not safe, I don't care if it is 9 lanes across, perfectly flat and there are only two cars on the road for 100 miles. To look at it another way, I am perfectly capable of landing a Cessna 172 on just about any major highway in the US where there is 2,000ft of relatively straight road. In fact (in an emergency) its perfectly legal for me to do so. That said, it does not mean it is perfectly safe, nor is it the responsibility of the drivers on the ground to watch out for me. Now you do what you want to do, since you are willing to "pay the price". I'm not sure the family traveling in the minivan that don't realize you are approaching them at two times the EXPECTED maximum closure speed are going to feel the same way when you plow into them.

So basically this thread has become "hey bro come tell me about your street racing" stories. Excellent.
You all do realize that stuff posted on a public forum can be used in a court of law, against you right? |
