Only you can determine whether you can afford it. I myself like to make sure that I am fully self sufficient. Make sure that you take into account the little things as well. Oil changes are more expensive due to the Synthetic Oil, tires are expensive due to speed rating and low profile, Premium Gas Required, etc...
As my dad told me, "If you want it, and can afford it, get it! That's what you are working for!" That said I have a good job, that appears to have no chance of changing. So I bought it. I have to say that I LOVE the Car! and wonder why I didn't buy something like this years ago. Good Luck with your decision!

There's nothing wrong with being mommy's boy. If your parents will pay for all your stuff, then enjoy it. forever alone ftw!
Otherwise, if you're looking to become self-sufficient, then no, you don't make enough to afford anything new at the moment. Hell, 900/mo is below the poverty line... don't even think about a new car, much less keeping both vehicles. But... to each their own. |

Having spent nearly a decade in MD, on the poor roads and belt ways, I'd probably get a new WRX instead of a BRZ. They're close in price. Something to consider.
Btw, compared to a 5 Series, the BRZ is spartan and has a jarring ride. You might want to see if CarMax has any E90 3 Series coupes you might like better too. Oh, check your insurance rates too - some younger people on their parents' policy still pay hundreds per month for a new sports car. Also note that living in your parents' house, you'll probably want to cover their RE Taxes ($3k/yr? $6k? I don't know how expensive your house is...) and then any maintenance. Not talking about water heaters and AC units, but just simple stuff like lawn care, etc. The mortgage is only one part of the home ownership expense. Btw, at 0% interest rates, it's better to put no money down and open a savings account that earns interest with the money earmarked for the car - well, except savings accounts don't really earn any interest, and anything that does give a decent return carries the risk of also losing money (stocks, etc). |

Im in a little bit of a similar situation, just not living at home. Id be selling my bike too.
Look at it this way- You're only going to be without a family for a while, when that changes you're going to have to get a sedan or something bigger, enjoy single life while you still can. If you do get it, worst case scenario and you get in a pickle, you can always resell it and downgrade back to a cheaper older car. with a 50k job lined up you wont really have to worry about affording it as long as you don't do something stupid to get fired or quit (no offense to the previous poster who quit for 6 months, but probably would've lined up another job first before quitting). The only thing is that'll mean you won't really have much extra to spend on anything else, so chances of moving out of the parents are kind of slim… basically all about making compromises and taking some risks to gain some enjoyments... |

I'd suggest waiting until you get a job. My parents paid for my college, car/gas/insurance during school, etc. I had to pay for food and rent for my apartment senior year. It took my a year after graduating to get a job, and after I started work I had to pay for my own gas, food, insurance, etc but lived at home for a bit to save money. If I had to pay $300/month the year I was funemloyed, I wouldn't have been able to keep up. But if you're parents let you live at home until you get a job (mine did) and for a period of time after you start your job, go for it. But you'd be surprised how quick bills pop up once you start paying for things yourself; especially your own living expenses.
I'd suggest... 1) Wait until you get a job offer, and good luck on that front 2) Get at least the front bumper clear bra'd immediately. 3) Weathertech floor mats and trunk liner (the one from Subaru is great, just get a package with it) 4) Don't drive it in snow or ice with the stock tires.

All I'll say is I'm making well north of 50k/year but I drive a 16 year old Outback with almost 300k miles because COLLEGE LOANS/MOVING EXPENSES/BILLS/COST OF LIVING IN A BIG CITY/...
I thought for sure when I took this job that I'd be buying a new BRZ first thing. Then I figured out that I was finally making enough to pay all my bills and stuff and still have a little bit left over... which technically could probably eek me out a BRZ, but actually makes much more sense putting towards paying off all my loans and stuff. As someone recently out of college, I have to agree with everyone here: you don't realize how much it costs to live on your own until you do... and its always more than you thought it would be. Until you're living on your own and paying all of your expenses, I'd be wary of committing to a new car payment. Wouldnt you rather work on becoming more independent? Trust me, no matter how much you think it might suck paying your own bills, it's still a fantastic feeling when you can tell your parents, "Yeah. I'm good. I got this." Not to mention your parents will be happy to see you starting to live more independently. You sure they'd be happy seeing you buy a new car while they're paying all your bills? It's not really the "responsible" thing to do. Make sure they're totally OK with that first. But hey, if it works for you, go for it. I only wish I was so lucky! |

So Droid what did you wind up doing? I know this is a little late but I wound up with a 2014 LMT for 23,900 +TTL so your deal doesn't sound so good to me...... I am in AZ though, and I paid cash. I also got two years of oil changes with that deal.

Sorry about the lapse in time, but I decided to wait it out and get a series blue the day after graduation. I'm glad I held off as I have "lived it up" this last semester of college whereas with the car payment, I wouldn't have been able to be as lenient with my money. I'm looking at the cars now and going to "deal" with the dealers shortly!
