Well, when I ordered the car I specifically told the dealer not to mount the front plate or prep the car (wash it). They only listened to me for the first point

So, my friend and I did a full paint correction on the car yesterday. Most would say the car didn't need it, but Ive got OCD, and the slightest imperfection would bother the hell out of me. I couldn't get a lot of the imperfections to show up on the camera, but take my word for it, there were TONS of swirls and a few decent sized scratches from the dealer prep.

*Not pictured - scratches on both rear wheel arches, or multiple hard water spots

Steps
-Wash car with Black Ice car wash soap
-Clay bar entire car (removes particles that contaminate the paint during transport)
-Polish car with Optimum Polish II followed by Menzerma Super Finish, with an IPA wipe down after each
-Seal with Blackfire Wet Diamond

Taped up:

After Menzerna Super Finish but before sealant:

Letting BFWD haze:

Finished:

In short, the finish looks amazing. The orange peel is less then before. Even without the sealant, the paint had tons of gloss and looked very deep. The Wet Diamond (which I recommend for darker cars) adds even more depth and makes the car appear wet. I love it.

The entire process took about 12 hours to complete. But it was definitely worth it. Plus, it was in preparation for this:

Kayhettin was there, and PTuning was nice enough to let us both park under the tent right up front

Unfortunately most of my pics from the meet came out like crap. But from the amount of people that were taking pics of our cars, Im sure more will surface.

You sound like me when it comes to detailing. I never let anyone else detail my car, and I clay and wax several times a year...haha

What should I expect to pay a trusted detailer to do this to my Dark Grey Metallic BRZ? Also, what do I ask them to do?

I had the same problem -- dealership washed the car even though I told them not to and they swirled/scuffed it with shitty wash etiquette. A couple hundred bucks later and my paint looks the way its supposed to.

So its ok my friend, you arent the only weirdo here with OCD about vehicle paint.

Nice correction!

I picked up an LGT last month and despite my requests, they went ahead and "detailed" the exterior and interior. I still can't get the smell of Armor-All out of the leather. Yuck!

Not just yet, but they do have a bunch of parts planned.

A few hundred, but it varies. Youre looking for a new car correction, hopefully you wont need to have a full 2 step done on yours. A 2 step polish takes quite a bit of time to complete which is what pushes the price up, but a single step correction should only be about 6 hours. As long as you take care of the car after the correction (wash every week using 2 bucket method, quick detail, NO machine washes, dont let bugs or bird crap sit on the paint), you should expect to keep it looking very good for a while. My CL went about 2 years between paint corrections, and the last correction was very minor.

I understand that the dealer is moving tons of cars and doesnt have time to do a proper detail on every one of them, but I just wish theyd put down the ArmorAll bottle

Got the windows tinted earlier. Only one guy was working in the shop and people kept coming in asking dumb questions, so it took nearly 4 hours. He had to remove the rear paneling around the window and the rear deck to tint the entire window (to get behind the brake light). He did my CL 4 years ago and it still looks great.

The film used was technically 60% front and 42% rear, but the glass has a slight tint from the factory. After it was installed, he tested the front at 43%, which is within state law (50% max on front, +/-7%). I didnt want any darker tint because state police sees it as easy revenue, and it makes me an easy target. Id prefer to follow the law to the T (where they can/I let them see it ).

I should've grabbed my polarizing filter for this pic, but I wasnt thinking

And yes, the lawn was mowed shortly after I took these pics

tint looks perfect, not too dark for my taste, I like when people can sneak a peak through my windows with it looking fresh
