I think it looks better than the regular FT-86. One reason is because it reminds me of my white MK4.

Man. MKIV is a legend so this car. Most sport cars come from Toyota are legends.

I love Toyota's sport cars everything from the 2000GT, MR2, Celica, to the Supra.

I was hoping to import a 94 + Celica GT-4 but it just never happen

I can't wait for the release of the FT-86. It will finally shut the Honda fan boys up.

Well I been doing auto news for houston-imports. I have been following the release of both the FT-86 and CR-Z since day one. But you won't believe the number of Honda fan boys and their comments, but its fun to read.

When the CR-Z concept was showed they were like "hondas gonna kill that retarded toyobaru and its not gonna look half as good as the crz". But then the facts came out, $24k, 122hp, 0-60 in 9.7 seconds, and 2700lbs. Then they were like "you cant compare the two, ones a hybrid, cant compare apples to oranges". excuses excuses

If Honda CRZ is happened to be a gasoline engine, Honda will sell it well. However, Toyota FT-86 is way better in every department.

Agreed, Honda could have made the CR-Z a hot seller with a base price of lets say $15k to $18k and drop that silly hybrid vision. But at $24k FT-86 all the way baby, and the track vision is said to start at $20k - $22k and sorry for getting off topic.

why? there is no advantage to twin turbos instead of a single turbo.

Toyota FT-86 to get track focused version with stiffer suspension, beefier brakes

Quote:
Toyota CEO and Nurburgring 24 Hour race car driver Akio Toyoda has been pretty vocal about the Japanese automaker’s need to produce more emotional cars. The Lexus LFA and the upcoming Toyota FT-86 are just a hint of where Toyota is headed with that emotional design. Toyoda said that combining design with better driving dynamics is something he hopes to accomplish with future Toyota vehicles.

“It is important for management like me to drive our cars not only on public roads but also in competition to fully understand where our engineers are coming from,” Toyoda said. He went on to say that cars like the LFA and the IS-F allow engineers to push a car’s chassis and suspension to the limits.

According to EVO, a fully-loaded showroom version of the Toyota FT-86 could cost up to $27,000. A source close to Toyota said that a track version is also in the works and will sell for less than $22,000. The model will feature a stiffer suspension and beefier brakes. The same model will be used for drifting competitions in the future.

Refresher: Inspired by the sporty 1980s Corolla AE86, the production version of the FT-86 is reported to be powered by a 200-hp 2.0L boxer Subaru engine sending power to the rear-wheels. Production is reported to start in 2011 with prices starting above $20,000.

Oh and there is another one

REPORT: Track-focused, budget-oriented Toyota FT-86 on the way

The latest issue of EVO hasn't dropped into our laps yet, but our favorite Brit pub apparently got the scoop on another variant of the Toyota FT-86 -- one that's supposedly track tuned and considerably cheaper than the model due to arrive in 2011.

Powered by the same Subaru-sourced, Toyota-tuned boxer four, this supposedly stripped out variant could dispatch some of the standard model's amenities and come equipped with upgraded brakes and suspension components specifically designed for track work and drifting duty. According to EVO, a fully optioned FT-86 would carry a price tag of around $27,000, while this budget-oriented performance model will retail for around $22,000 -- a similar setup to the Hyundai Genesis Coupe RSpec.

EVO goes on to report that Toyota's crosstown rivals are working on a one-make race series for the Honda CR-Z and plan to campaign the hybrid hatch at the 24 hours of Nurburgring enduro in May. The more the merrier we say...

Definitely agree. Never said that it was the most practical setup, just that it is possible. The Porsche Panamera has a similar setup, except that the front prop shaft passes to the side of the engine... kinda precludes the use of equal length half shafts as well.

You are correct saying if you're into drifting, you're not going to be interested in this car but in a Subaru instead. So why in the world would you buy anything other than a WRX or Sti??? You'd stay as far away from the FT as possible if AWD was your thing.

Toyota is going to push the drifting facet of the FT (or whatever it'll be called ultimately) like crazy. SO back to my original point. This chassis is being designed with handling towards sliding. Not as an AWD platform imo. This car will be Toyota's Silvia...

*hands talking stick back to Matador*
I meant to say "Chances are, if you are interested in this car to "slide" you probably aren't driving a subaru in the first place. Likely you are not interested in the Subaru version."

The chassis is designed towards impeccable handling. Do you realize how moronic and irresponsible it would be to put out a car to the public that could only slide well?

Sure, of course they will push the angle that it drifts well. Just like they are pushing the "connection" to the AE86 Corolla. Marketing and reality are two different things.

..... You want more lag, more weight, worse weight distribution, more components to go bad, that have to be replaced and upgraded?

It makes 0 sense whatsoever to put a TT setup on a 4 cyl car, even less on a boxer engine. They wouldn't do it, and I'd slap the engineer that proposed it and brought it to reality if they ever did.
