So anyway....

For those that track, the 335 has trouble staying limp mode free for anything more than autocross. Expect to implement some cooling mods and turn boost down. On the street, it's never a problem and the strong torque means you practically never go WOT.

You wouldn't say that if you drove a lightweight car and the bimmer/z back to back.

I think SUB just has a personal issue with revving past 4k :P

I can understand where Subft86 is coming from. It's nice not having to downshift or red line when making a pass. The BRZ will most definitely be more fun to experience around a corner nut when it comes to straight line acceleration or blasting out of a corner, 300+tq is hard to beat.

I still say for $25k, used 335 offers a lot more for most people than a new BRZ. And for 2k more, one could get 400 whp/tq with just tune, intake and methanol.

When I bought my 335, I was cross shopping that with the s2000CR. Obviously two totally different cars. I nearly pulled the trigger on the much less practical CR but the lack of rear seats and need to rev high for any pull were the main reasons for going with the 335. The BRZ addresses the first issue and I'm hoping for a turbo to address the second issue. If no turbo, that test drve better blow me away... But I do have high hopes.

And for $20K I could have a 993 Carrera in my garage. Comparing used German cars to a new Japanese car is stupid IMO. Your purchase price may be similar, but your cost of ownership will be VERY different for at least the first few years.

After a 5 month hiatus I come to find that I'm clearly at fault for this fiasco.

I did a fairly good job of keeping up with the newer spec miata guys my last track day, though the faster guys are unreal for how little power they have.
I had hoped someone with a Type-S (;you) could explain how different the RSX feels with a K20 that makes decent power from get-go. All my previous attempts to explain the different K20 engines have been sadly unsuccessful.

I think the Mazda 3 of similar vintage would have been a better choice for you SUB apart for having 4 or 5 doors and the heightened possibility of loosing it in the local supermarket parking lot . I test drove one a while ago (was board), never had to stomp on it or rev it past 3000 for the uphill on-ramp to the highway.

Oh! The new car vs. used car debate... carry on.

A slow car that is fast enough to satisfy your foot. LOL
My friend examined the same theory, but he finally ended up buying '10 Shelby GT500. That's what satisfies his foot.

When you say a "slow car is better to drive fast", you pretty much generalized all slow cars. I know the difference between the two K20 engines and trust me when I say this a extra 40hp over the base isn't impressive to me considering I don't rev that high in the first place.

You are clearly more interested in power down low, so why did the ft86 ever appeal to you?

I would LOVE to get a 993 for $20k, unfortunately those go easily into the high 20 to mid 30k range. The 996 can still be had for low to mid 20s though.

Perhaps I have my generations wrong; a 2002 Carrera (RWD, non-S model) can be had for $20-25k where I live, depending on mileage. 986 Boxster S is even lower in price, though 987 Boxter S models still retain their value somewhat.

And I did see the topic, and I still think it's stupid compare a money pit to a brand new car with a warranty.
