mine works great for my needs.. but i would go with stock radio and just get a galaxy note 2.. nice screen/google nav is the best/install a hacked pandora and your set no ADs no commercials just pure music... having a nice unit with a screen and you cant take it out is just another thing for someone to try and break into the car knowing you have something nice...

My car came with the "upgraded" stereo. If anything I would be complaining if i got the base one. Looks like they stole it from a 94 corolla. I like the touch screen and hd radio. Don't care about the bespoke and crappy gps, I use my phone's anyways. I'm satisfied, looks pretty, that's what girls care about right..?

Last place I expected to see a LotR call out.

Shadowfax is actually gray though (Argento?)

Maybe the car should be renamed Nazgûl, or Witch King of Angmar, after the Black Riders.

Shadowfax is named shadowfax for being bad-ass and the word shadow, actual color coordination is not a prerequisite. However, I'll concede the name is of Norse origin, so using it in its English homonym may be improper; Naming my car was never opened to the forum.
If it makes you feel better, we can pretend I named it after Shadow fax, providing excellent printing services since 1988. Your one stop shop. Http://shadow-fax.com.

LoL, thats cool. but if you want to give your car a really bad-ass name, you shoulda called it The Dragon Reborn from twot series.

"You will kneel to The Dragon Reborn or you will be knelt!"(best book quote ever!)

I love the bespoke unit, the fact that I can set 18 speed dials and dial them with my finger why driving at highway speeds is priceless! I dont care about its "lack" of what it can't do.

Just commenting on the LotR implications mentioned by the other post.

There's also a band named Shadowfax apparently.

I have the Pioneer unit, and the only thing I would ever swap to is the BeSpoke and I'm not going to be swapping to the BeSpoke. It's just had far too many complaints about it.

I won't swap to a third party head unit because I don't like how any of them mount. I hate seeing a bezel around the head unit, it looks unprofessional and it reminds me that I have an aftermarket job rigged into the dash. The car was designed with specific lines and tight seams, and putting in a unit with a fitment bezel and non-matching plastic feels like an insult to the interior engineering.

A very rare stance I'm sure, I'm probably the only person who'll never replace the Pioneer.

What needs to be fixed with BeSpoke

I'm hoping that somehow the guys at Toyota/Scion will hear these complaints, and fix them in time, I'm going to try and keep this brief. Let me just preface this by saying I love my FR-S, I bought the same car I test drove because I loved it so much, and it just so happened to come with the BeSpoke unit (despite the fact that I didn't want it for the following reasons).

1) Navigation sucks
There is a multitude of caveats to this, and I don't feel like "sucks" is an overstatement.

A) Requires an iPhone, and it must be a 4 or 4s
-I have an iPhone 4, but this is still a major inconvenience to a lot of other FR-S drivers. iPhone 5 and Android phones are rampant, and these users are being neglected, currently.

B) Address entry wasn't included until about a week ago
-We can cross this off the list, but seriously, you wanted users to drag a dot to where they wanted to go? If someone needed the GPS, chances are they don't know where the street is actually located on a map. It felt archaic to use such an interface.

C) There's no turn-by-turn, spoken voice, directions, you need to hit a button after ever step.
-This is not only unsafe, but inconvenient. Constantly having to look at the head unit for lack of sound, and automatically moving to the next step. There's not even a chime to let you know when to turn.

D) The interface is clunky an un-intuitive
-This is self-explanatory. Nothing is labeled with words, no tutorial or instruction manual to go with the app or head unit. The icons can be interpreted pretty vaguely. I'm 24, I'm extremely tech savvy, and even to me it was baffling initially.

2) Sound/Video options are lacking

A) You can't watch videos
-Not even with the car parked and the e-brake on. This should be standard, whether it be YouTube videos, pictures from my phone, or a DVD in the unit (I understand the DVD may not be possible due to the laser chosen on the unit). Many other cars with upgraded features have this option; why not BeSpoke?

B) I can't mirror the display of my iPhone/Android phone
-At least I could use Google/Apple maps for superior navigation.

C) When using the BeSpoke app for navigation, I can't listen to my own music
-I can only use streaming internet radio; my iPhone doesn't have unlimited data, also puts me at risk for overages if I listen to too much music rather than what I already have on the phone.

3) Updates are few and far in between

A) The only benefit to having the NAV/Radio in the phone is that it's easy to update the interface through the app store. You're not locked into whatever firmware is on the head unit, Toyota/Scion can simply roll out constant updates instead. Personally, I have received only one update since getting the app, and it was the "enter address" field that should have been included at launch.

4) The cord to connect to the head unit

A) I drive a 6MT, the cord interferes with the shifter at times; I wish it could have been shoved in the glove box, or had a route through the center console. I can't even use the Bluetooth for the audio portion; it has to be the included cable. It just seems like a silly design flaw.

As I stated before, in its current state, BeSpoke is an absolute joke. It's overly expensive, poorly integrated, and almost unusable.

I will complement that the interface for regular Bluetooth audio streaming and radio listening is just fine, but that's nothing I couldn't have done with the stock stereo. It's inexcusable to leave it in its current state. In 2013 this should be leaps and bounds above what it currently is, not something that seems like a budget developer mushed together in a fortnight.

Please include any gripes that you may have personally so that I can edit this as need be, so that it may be all inclusive. Also, please refrain from "should've bought _____ head unit instead".

Unhappy Phone Contact List Won't Transfer

As noted in a previous thread, I can't transfer the contacts list from my Samsung SGH-T679 phone, although that function is included for it in Scion's cellphone compatibility list. We're going to a dealer today to try our phone with another BeSpoke unit, but I'm honestly not expecting to find that this glitch is unique to our car. I'll update and edit later as appropriate.
