ichi, I never said it was or wasn't street legal because I don't know what the laws are where FormulaJDM lives. I was just trying to make sense of his post.

I don't personally think Toyota would release a version of the FR-S with a cage but who knows it could happen I guess.

I would bet on the lighter weight and Brembos making it to production though.

Some street legal sports car do come w rollcage
That is not a roll cage...that is a roll bar and harness bar. A cage has a halo and forward down tubes.

that is the part of a roll cage. You can see the blinds where the front pieces are joined to. And the whole contruction has FIA approval, afaik.

@FormulaJDM:

There's no money in a street illegal car.

Toyota is not Ferrari. They aren't in the business of producing track-only cars. Ferrari is a racing car company that produces street cars. Toyota is a street car company that is trying to appeal to the enthusiast market.

7 seconds 0-100, pretty happy with that. Has a more thrust than a MX5.
The NC Miata (MX5, whatever) does 0-60 in 6.7 seconds. So...not really?

Ford does this with the Mustang and Focus via their Ford Racing Parts catalog. 2012 Boss 302S

It is _part_ of the cage....but is _not_ a cage. The notches (the little black parts at the top of the bend of the main hoop) are built in gussets to attach available halo and down tubes (the forward section to complete the cage).

Then why is Toyota debuting a Yaris race car at Sema next week?

Very disappointing sounding article. If it's rumored to be true with a est 2800lb mark at 197hp, along with the questionable handling, many are not going to get the car they hoped for. Right now, maybe it'd be a cool looking, decent mpg commuter for me at best, as it doesn't sound like it's going to really live up to the handling hopes neither. If pricing of this car is near/around $28k, consider it DoA, and overall Toyota really failed here. Sad thing is, it has me really worried about them releasing a new Supra and screwing it up.

Oh well, here's to hoping the rumors of the BRZ being a better car. Just IMHO.

Hold up... the R version sounds enticing. I'm pretty patient but this is getting a bit frustrating, oh well.

OOohoohoho R version! I likey

Type-RA version hopefully from the sounds of it.

Although I'd still get the base model... Don't really need brembos or a roll cage in this car.
