Probably going to trade work for a good discount on tires. Whatever they give me off tires they'll get in savings from me so it'll work out in the end. |

Saw these at Wal-mart today... Black Steel Wheels
Size - 16 x 6.5 Mounting - 5-100 Center Bore - 57 mm Offset - 42mm Offset only 42 mm. Does that make these a bad choice for 205/55/16 tires? Each wheel was $58 as well so maybe a little pricey... I remember when deciding on a color for my car was hard... Damn decisions. :P |

I guess $58 isn't really that pricy at all after shopping around. I guess I was thinking of something else.
No input on the 42mm offset? Thought I'd ask again because the wheels seem perfect otherwise other than the offset being less than the 45 that was recommended earlier. No clue what center bore means but I'm guessing that's fine. |

offset has no effect on what size tire will fit on the rim. It only effects stance, and potentially clearance of suspension components. But the wheel is so narrow it won't be an issue.

I installed my winter wheels/tires today. I went with a set of 16" steelies and Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60 tires (205/55/16) with some OEM Toyota TPMS. I originally wanted to go with the WS-70 tires, but got a good deal on some left over 60s. The intended fitment for the wheels was a Subaru Impreza. They fit perfectly.

Another thing to consider with the TPMS is that you HAVE to have the dealer re-key the car/sensors every time you swap wheels, which can be upwards of $90 per time.
~$300 for sensors, plus at least another $100/year (assuming a deal of $50/time) is just a waste IMO.

It is too much money... I won't argue that, but to me the light on the dash would be more painful to look at than a bill for than less than $100 twice a year.
A friend owns a tire shop, and is sourcing tools to be able to reprogram. He also mentioned sensors coming than can mimic the code of the stock sensors. Next time I talk to him, I'll get more detail on that

I don't think all steel wheels are created equal? Another question to consider is how much change in the tread dimension from stock actually over stresses the wheel bearings? |

Aftermarket steelies are not all the same. The set I bought from Walmart eons ago for my Integra were not hubcentric. If you get OEM steelies, they are more than likely to be hubcentric. Although I've never had any problems using non hubcentric wheels.
As far as wheel bearing stress goes, I would argue that this is negligible for normal driving circumstances. For motorsport applications, I've heard that wider wheels, stickier tires, etc. does add stress to the bearings (and other things) but at that point, you're changing those components more often because you don't want to experience any failures. But for normal street driving, I wouldn't even worry about it. Funny, I picked up a set of older Legacy wheels yesterday and the guy's neighbour has an Ultramarine FRS.
