I was offered one of these at a slight discount, but I'm just not sure it's still worth the money. My final plan is to be around 300 whp (turbo kit). I don't plan to track it, but the better response would definitely be a nice benefit...

In my opinion, the carbon fiber driveshafts are well worth the money. I know $1K+ is hard to justify, but the results are amazing.

The advantages to carbon fiber over aluminum are the diameter, weight and strength. Generally aluminum driveshafts are quite a bit bigger and usually require modifications to the underside of the body to fit properly.

Why carbon fiber? (from PST's site)
  • Lighter than steel or aluminum.
  • Three times torsional strength of steel.
  • Torsional spring rate allows better tire hook-up.
  • Torsional spring rate allows smoother shifting.
  • Less shock load to the differential.
  • Eliminates or dampens high speed vibrations.
  • Reduces transmission and differential breakage.
  • A much greater safety factor - carbon fiber will return to a fiber and not create shrapnel under the car, as would aluminum or steel shafts.

I already asked about this possibility and others have mentioned interest in the thread. I was told if there was interest it could be explored.

But I don't know what it takes to prove there is interest to Rallysport and/or PST?? It seems like lots of AT owners would be interested, though I think the # of AT : MT ratio there are quite a bit more MT cars produced for USDM. But when you consider both the BRZ & the FRS... There are plenty of AT cars and mostly enthusiasts are buying these cars, even the AT versions. So seems like it would sell plenty from a volume perspective even for the AT.

EDIT: Actually it was asked multiple times in this thread:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16029

And the response does sound positive from RallySport Direct on the possibility of an AT version.

Yeah, we are aware of the interest in the AT version of this shaft, and we really appreciate all of the responses , but ultimately this will come down to PST and what they decide to do. However, we would love to see this happen, we figure the more that is out there on the market, the better it will be for everyone!

We will keep you up to date with any news, but please don't hold us to anything.

Thanks again guys!

Zach,

Thanks for the info. I'm just trying to determine if this is worth it for me. My car is a DD and I don't plan on tracking it. Having said that, I do enjoy a spirited drive, and I will have the ability to definitely run up the wick, with an E85 map. Man, decisions, decisions...

Sweet part! It goes on the list of things that I like, but don't have a chance in hell of affording.

"Glad you are enjoying the shaft as well, we are loving ours!"

Sorry my mind is in the gutter. LOL

To be honest, I would recommend this for anybody from my grandma to Schumacher. It really wakes up the throttle response and makes the car so much more fun to drive.
Another thing I like about this shaft is you are not making a compromise for comfort or drive-ability like you would with most performance parts. Again $1K+ is tough, but isn't a big smile worth much more than that? wink wink, nudge nudge

Trust me, I am pushing to get one because of all the interest. I don't want to lead anybody on, but I'm trying for you guys. If there is any news, we will start a thread and make sure we mention something in this one too.

Dang, Zach, you're making it hard to say no. Unfortunately I won't be able to get a before and after comparison, stock. I'm getting the car back with a turbo kit & exhaust installed and tuned. However, I don't doubt what you say. Thanks again
