There are plenty of reasons to get your wing out of the turbulence of the lines of the car, and it's done very often on a variety of race cars. Note, race cars. Note 2, dedicated race cars. I'd hope the wing has good functionality on the track, but on the street for it to be used you would have to be doing something very illegal.

For a while the Porsche 911's in the Speed GT cup (I think?) had insanely high wings, but I couldn't find a photo of them.
