I think these cars will definitely be classics in the future. But how much value they'll have depends a lot on the number of cars produced and sold.

The best way to get around that is ship to somewhere it's not sold. I know there are a few real GT86 here in the USA cost $1500 to ship but will be rare here and easier to sell in a few years unless Toyota brings the GT86 here

At least for the US market, I believe we're looking at about 15,000 FR-S and 5,000 BRZ for the 2013 model year.

I think the default kbb valuation is retail (sale to an end user) but there should also be a wholesale valuation. Trade-in value will always be less because dealerships expect to make money after paying you for the car and then doing an inspection and any required repairs, not to mention sales commissions and other costs of running their business.

Instant classic might be a bit of hyperbole. They'll likely make too many over the entire run for it to be that collectible unless you're talking about a cherry mint hyper low mile example decades from now. But then where would the fun be in leaving it in your garage for so long undriven right?

Instant classic? No, the 1M is an instant classic. You can find this Scion in Dealers.......the BRZ is a different story though.......

Depends on how you define "classic". As far as a game changer bargain sports car that will make other manufacturers realize light weight IS important in sports cars (seems to be mostly forgotten in that past 20+ years), yes, it is a game changer "classic".

I don't expect to get MSRP like money for this car in 10+ years and I don't put many miles on my cars (around 5K miles a year on average). I'll be ecstatic if it depreciates very, very slowly.

There will be no classic cars built after the 60's. They are non-restorable and hence not likely to be roadworthy once parts are not made.

The MGB, the 240Z, and the Miata are all predecessors to the FRS; (had em all) the sheer number of them made will keep them from ever being valuable.

This car will last ten years with normal use and maintenance before it is ready to be recycled. Hopefully, there will be another car as entertaining as this when I get back from the scrapyard!

Like a Skyline GT-R, they're very cool until Uncle Sam shows up with a flatbed and crushes it.

I am sure Honda and Mazda will have something better or equal sooner or later. Cars, electronics, drugs... Competition is fierce. Enjoy the excitement while it lasts.

I don't see the 86 ready for the scrap heap in only 10 years. Cars are just built better than that now. I suppose if you live (and drive) in harsh weather conditions with road salt/etc that will corrode away the underside, that could happen.

From experience, I've owned multiple vehicles that were well over 10 years old, and a few with 200K+ miles on them. None of them were in a condition that would have resulted in them going to the scrapyard at 10 years old. Heck, most of my "secondary" cars I don't even buy until they are 8 to 10 years old.

It is a fact that fits my life-mission to care less and less about more and more until I don't give a damn about anything.

Buy a car for 32k cash. Don't bother to do anything to it (including washing) but fuel, brakes, tires and oil. Drive like stolen year round in Canada. Very liberating.

Car is going to be tired after ten years. Easier to call scrap yard that mess with some random idiot on Craigslist or Kajiji.

Repeat as necessary.
