Transmission... Automatic? or Manual? Thinking of buying.

You're kind of old now.. so you'd have to balance the odds of getting another wife against kicking her to the curb for such a reason.

I would have instead suggested just not getting married in the first place. It is, afterall, the leading cause of divorce in the world.

I tried. She did it one time. Was actually pretty good for a first try. About 15-20 minutes in an empty parking lot. Didn't stall once. Then she stopped the car. turned off the ignition, handed me the keys, and said "Nope, not happening". That was 1995. Now I'm looking at a second car, something fun to drive, and she said "Fine, but with one condition: it has to be an automatic".

That sucks if your second car has the transmission restriction.

We have 2 cars, and our X1 is obviously an Auto, and its the wifey's car. she doesnt have much desire to drive stick.

But our second car (right now its a scion IM) is mine, and it gets to be MT.

Wife will have to learn stick if she wants to drive my car lol. Right now she doesnt car, but when we get the 86 she thinks she might end up enjoying driving it and its MT goodness.

LOL, it's all good. I think the auto on the 86 GT is fine, especially in manual mode with the paddle shifters the only thing not getting in on the action is my left foot.

Plus, if I've learned anything in 28.5 years of being married to her, a successful marriage requires three things: honest communication, occasionally compromising, and an appreciation of our differences. Love alone just don't hold up. She's not a car person. She never will be. Pretty gracious actually that she's willing to let me get the car since it will be a 'second' car, just for fun/pleasure driving. I could tell when I test drove the one last weekend she wasn't thrilled about how loud the exhaust sound was but she knew that since I'd conceded on the transmission, she'd live with it.

Now if you are special ordering the car, then yes, you MAY be contributing to the overall volume, but even then, it's likely not. The Manufacturer already has planned how many MT cars the plan to build in a given model year, and now just configure one of them to your specific requirements.

I kind of wish I taught my girlfriend to drive stick. She has sunken into some bad shift habits I can't seem to break.

She recently drove my car for the first time in over 2 years we've been together onand had to call me at the store because she couldn't find reverse. :Lol:
She also didn't like it because of the throttle and shorter clutch.
