gtengr: aftermarket overpipe doesn't net much by itself. It's catless header that nets most. What happen to net more gain for ace - not because it's construction has replaced overpipe, but because it has longer runners, that happen to be more optimal for better exhaust scavenging on our engines. Just that by design choice ace chose to put some of that extra pipe runner length using overpipe portion, unlike Nameless (also having long tube header design) that tucked that extra length in rising bend in front of engine. Each design has some pros & cons, eg. nameless's has better suspension/engine clearance at overpipe portion, but worse in front of engine, and also haven't got rid of torque dip. Nameless/PLM long tube headers IIRC had OFT tune for them. Both Nameless & Ace have nice area under curve showing good gains across the rpm range. Everybody can pick their own poison

Here's the post I was looking for finally: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...postcount=1207
Mike any input on that? 16HP is only 2 or so more HP than the OFT + OFH which would put it at a horrible $/HP.

One bad example vs everyone else with an Ace header? Statistically insignificant. It's akin to the occasional "my JRSC only made 30whp" or "my Edelbrock kit wont idle" thread that pops up. |

Or just that some engines are naturally stronger (produce more power) than others.

Gotcha. Bottleneck's upstream of the header.

This combination with perrin filter and air tube is what i have, totally agree. Way happy. Delicious flex tune from late 2016.

Still wish CSG Mike would cough up some info on what ceramic coat is used. With no heat shield like on the OEM header in daily driving the engine compartment must be getting a lot hotter.
A) Wonder how much hotter engine compartment on a 98 degree summer day in stop n go traffic on the street with and without the coating? { Oil pan temp hotter due to radiated heat? } B) And when I researched I kept running into comments but no facts on even stainless deteriorating from the metal getting too hot under the ceramic in header applications. Lots of speculation, conjecture and hearsay but no definitive proof the metal gets damaged like with wraps. If there is NO damage then why do so many header mfg void warranty if aftermarket coated. So what is CSG using that's OK?

The conditions of stop-and-go traffic is nowhere near as rigorous as sustained WOT on track. My car's seen 40+ minute extended sessions on track without issue. Radiant heat absorbed by the oil pan, relatively speaking, is irrelevant compared to the heat generated by sustaining extended 5500+ RPM. Tomei includes wrap for the oil pan because of proximity. As for the air under the engine bay, I would assume in 98F+ degree weather, you'd have AC on, which will force airflow through your engine bay. |

Also, the coating will make it difficult for inspection(under a microscope) to see why the metal fatigued and failed. |

Seeing this makes me sort of regret going for the Tomei UEL with overpipe. I have to get mine on the dyno and see what it's putting down.
Mike, unrelated but do you think a drop in filter would give any kind of bump to a '17? |

My name's not Mike, but, you're not going to feel anything with just a filter alone.
