At least in the listings I've seen so far, the BRZ is a couple of thousand more than the FR-S. Is that usually the case?
The BRZ holds its value a bit better and the Limited trim packs many additional features that were not available on the FR-S (unless it was one of the limited series).

BRZ Premium = FR-S Base (BRZ adds HID lights, some minor differences but pretty much the same)

BRZ Limited is the higher trim that may command a 1-2k price premium, which might be worth it if you value these features.

I'm looking right now at what is said to be a 2015 SCION FR-S RELEASE SERIES 1.0. It is not yellow, it is gray. And there's a key in the ignition, no push start, and no quad exhaust. Are they fibbing?

All FR-S Release Series & BRZ Limited have this centre stack interior - this is how the push start looks with the dual zone climate knobs and screens.

Wow that is crazy that there are that many mislabeled cars being sold as other editions!

Very common issue with vehicles dealers know little about. It is a niche vehicle and even Subaru doesn't really acknowledge the car. The current model year is a Toyota 86, so changing the make and model during production is almost unheard of. Lots of issue concerning this vehicle and general selling.

Being a knowledgeable buyer is a must here when it comes to pricing and trims. If you haven't looked into the plethora of issues that come with owning these cars, that is a must read as well.

slightly off topic but spinning off your comment, replaced my taillights gaskets in April, and this morning the left one has some light fog condensation :<

Check this section of the forum - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=72

Honestly, the 'plethora of issues' are really minor things and often in forums they can be magnified. It's good to be educated on them, but most are small annoyances like 'crickets' (ticking sound if you put in gas with ethanol due to the high pressure fuel pump, both port & direct injection) or small rattles, occasional taillight condensation etc.

From my own experience and many others, the cars are VERY reliable mechanically. I personally have had no minor issues either, but I recommend taking a long test drive so you are sure you and your son like it.

DO NOT PANIC!
Most of the issues were remedied after the first run of the early 13s. Look at the dates on the TSBs and you will notice most end well before the 14 model year.
As said the forum can make things look way worse than they are since a small but vocal minority speaks up. Nobody comes on and says "yep 100,000 miles and not a single issue". Also many drive the living crap out of the things and then when they break the car it is the manufacturer's fault.

cars pretty easy to work on too, one of the easier ones I have ever worked on. heck you can change the oil without even looking under the car if you have a pump, the oil filters on top.
