86 at 16, congrats, that must be awesome. I'm nearing 25 years of age and picked up one on my own at the beginning of the year. Got a 3000GT when I was 18, a 2014 Lancer that I lost to a deer on Christmas 2015. 16, I was waking up in the back of Uhaul trucks. I did drive a 98 Nissan Pathfinder for a bit though. Too bad you aren't in RI, I have some good buddies I roll with every now and then. We're all in our early 20s though.

Same goes for me, if anything, we can always learn from each other regardless of age. It's nice to have more people in the car community.

For sure man too bad most of the time people see me driving around they just think I'm a punk kid that wants to street race all the time or that plans to destroy the car by putting ridiculous mods on it

I get the exact same thing. I'm one of those asians that look too young to own a nice car, lmao. I get revv'd at and mean looks from nearly everyone other than car people that appreciate the 86 and what I've done to it. I could care less though, I love my FR-S. I have to admit, going full catless seems like an asshole move on my part where I live.

Everyone I hang out with is a good 5-7 years older than me. You're not alone!

Still get a job and:

Pay your own way to USE the car. I have zero issues that parents buy their kids cars (they must deserve it) but having them pay all the operating expenses is a bit tacky.

Save some of it up and when it comes collage time surprise your parents by buying your own books or something. Believe me they will appreciate even a small gesture.

After you do those things then start to think about buying mods.
