But once in a while, I have taken responsibility for stuff that has turned out quite OK. And that's a good feeling. A feeling those paralysed people with their frightened little minds never get to have.
Can't make an omelet without cracking some eggs. I whip up one hell of a breakfast.

Damn hum, you sure nailed it on that one. I think that little bit will help me survive my last decade in the workforce.

Being a junior leader in my hobby (army reserves(master bombardier)) and in my job (crew lead, 2 subordinates) I love making mistakes. I learn something new every time I do something wrong. If anything, it's helping my career more than hurting it. Boss sees I'm eager to learn and get my hands dirty. In the past 2 months, I've gone from arranging, managing and doing 50k jobs to now working on a 6M job. I better not screw the pooch on this one.

Amen! ^^^This, ladies and gentlemen, is leadership.

One of my lifelong mantras (came up with it myself) It's fun to be right but it's valuable to be corrected.

Also, save the mistakes for when you can afford them. Consider them the Non-Recoverable Engineering costs.

Military is the same thing. There's a sergeant in my regiment who served in the British royal marines for a while with (iirc) an airborne infantry regiment, though he admits that his first and true love are the guns. I love having him watch me command the howitzer. Every friggen time he does, he teaches me something new. I want to be that leader at some point.

Putting all the leadership backslapping aside, I pick my nose with my thumbs. When I'm dancing with 18 wheeler's though, all of us between 80 and 85 and jockeying for position on a 2 lane interstate in the middle of nowhere, I'm white knuckling it with all eleven fingers.

HMMMM I should see if the 56th needs another officer. Get busted back to Captain but I would have a few good years left in me.

They're hurtin for bodies. That regiment got decimated with like 25-40% of their strength leaving to go build windmils. Well, the guys are all still around, but they only show up once or twice a month

Not the same

Plus, I always feel awkward on skype. We use skype for business (Lync) at work and I just sit back while everyone else chats.

Not the part I was asking about but ok. Seems like you guys are taking "all volunteer" to a new level.

Being that you're only obligated to show up once a month, those guys meet the minimum requirements. The reserves don't work quite the same way as they do in the US
