uncool
when Hyundai first annouced it they said it would be like a spiritual successor to the S15. Cheap, light and decent power. None of those really occurred up here in Canada since we got no Track Pack until later, the car cost 30k+ and for its weight the power was brutal 210hp/3,294 lb (lightest combo) Had they been more honest that they are trying to make a G fighter and not a lightweight slidable chassis I prob would of said cool

definitely uncool. i think what they did for their company is an accomplishment and for the price its even more remarkable. still, its only cool in this nerdy kinda way. its not serious enough to go head to head with the legitimate performance cars but comes off as too serious to really go head to head with the entry level stuff. i think that for a car to be cool in that weird middle ground, it has to be flawless in it execution and really throw punches outside of its class.

That car undermines the concept of a sports car; in my opinion it is junk.

I quite like the subtle lines of the Hyundai Tiburon a bit more, it also handled pretty good for a car with a recycled chassis...
Gas cap has to go. If they added a bit more drama to the lines, made a lower roof line and overall wider and of course added RWD. It be a lot more interesting.

I really liked the generation before that one (the Tiburon).
The Genesis is a good car...esp for the money. But one thing that I cannot get outta my head about our car... Its center of gravity is 18" off the ground stock... |

Light? Definitely not and I think Hyundai needs to drop about 300-400lbs with this car and get it under 3Klbs. They also desperately need to improve their manual gearbox as well as their handling. Last edited by thill; 10-20-2013 at 11:03 AM. |

I give props to the Koreans lately. They have come a long way in a very short time, but I still don't think they are quite ready for a light weight sports car yet. I saw a brand new Genesis coupe when they first came out and it already had dead LEDs on it's center brake light.
Give them a few more years and I bet they'll give us something really good, not quite there yet today though.

before looking at the twins, i was dead-set on a genesis.. then i drove one.. at the time, i drove a 2001 mitsu eclipse, which is based on the same chassis that the 4dr galant or outlander(SUV for those that don't know) used. so it's heavy, sluggish, and fat, but it's got 2 doors and looks sporty..
when i finally got around to test driving a genesis, everything i hated about the eclipse came back.. it felt identical, but even more massive, in a fat-little-person kind of way that only an oversized base platform could make a sporty-looking 2dr car feel...
