the cultures of each division will vary wildly for each community of course.. but we're going off of trends here.

I just saw you're from Hawai'i. My mom lives on Oahu- makaha!

She works for the Marines @ Kaneohe. Crazy woman drives all the way from kaha thru H3 to there every day.

And she got her position only because the woman who held it before her died of old age... just saying though kanaka, hard to get fired from gov't gigs!

I always just thought the whole "hate the DMV" thing was just some sort of running gag! Apparently I was sadly mistaken.
Most of ours are contracted out now so they are not usually to bad as part of their pay depends on pumping people through in volume.

I am a biologist and work in a testing lab. We have some tests for metabolic illnesses that require a six hour incubation period, so we get some short breaks in the work load. That's when I'm on line, mostly.

ding ding ding! Tcoat got it.

Firms and organizations who reward employees with good performance will do better than those who reward their employees for being present

Ya pretty much!
In fairness it took me 25 years to get to this point so it is my turn.
As you can imagine I don't watch very closely though unless the real work is not getting done. Probably a lot like many people here's bosses.

On the surface, yes, government employees can be "held accountable", "disciplined", and "terminated". How that policy and code is enforced and acted upon is a WHOLE 'nother story, which is what @MikeM7 is underscoring.

I work for the State and they said they have gotten stricter since they found a room dedicated to porn once. So now everything is monitored on the state computers and at the main headquarters. But I work in field offices using the contractor's wifi so im unmonitored

I can't speak on state government, but 10 years of supporting federal government clients has not left me with a positive impression.

Just curious, how many people did you know that were fired in that 25 year span?
