I just saw someone had 245/40/17 on some 7.5s that looked heavily autoxd in the classifieds. It's 0.5" under width on specs... rounding error or real concern?

For autox people will sometimes try to stuff the most tire possible on a wheel. I know someone who ran 245s on 7" wheels. I'd recommend sticking to 225s, or 235s at the largest, especially if you'll be daily driving.

I did some more research on the oem 'crash' bolts including reading the service manual and watching an install video to get a good feel for what's going on. I am now totally comfortable giving this a shot as it seems the worst thing that can happen is you get 2mm of play in the suspension should they come loose. If the service manual says to use them for camber adjustment, I doubt toyota would suggest this if that is likely to happen. I was thinking it was a length of the bolt issue, but it's a width of the bolt and by having a thinner bolt it allows you to wiggle the suspension a bit before tightening up and that allows a bit of camber. |
