Certainly means she wasn't a bad one though!

I bet the first half or better of those years were spent driving a standard as well. No mystery, no fuss, no big production. Just drove it.

Well, my point was more to the effect that just because you've been doing something for xx years, it doesn't mean you're doing it right. Maybe I could've used a better example...lol

I use both. Bite me.

I've driven manual long enough that I can accelerate the car from a stop uphill without the need of the parking brake. However, I like having the ability to have the parking brake engaged before accelerating in certain situations - i.e. a car too close to your rear.

There's little need for using the e-brake to hold the car while starting uphill, but there's no detriment if you need it. People interpret things differently. Live and let live.

I mainly do hill starts without using the e-brake but I do use it in certain situations ie:

- Steep hill and the car behind me is up my ass
- Wet and Steep hill, usually just end up spinning tires and rolling backwards
- Parallel parking on a steep hill
- Stop and go traffic in the city on a hill

With my old car, I never used the parking brake to start on hills, though that is a trick my dad taught me "to put in your tool bag and take it out when needed."

Don't need to do it with this car, because auto life.

Right there with ya, lol. Honestly, this was an interesting read and I knew I couldn't be the only one. To me, these kinds of threads are like the age old question: who pees in the shower? You might get a few people absolutely disgusted by it, and some will consider hiding that they actually do it. But you know there's also a select few with light bulbs turning on... hahaha

Garage
Marion St. in downtown Seattle between 1st & 6th is STEEP.
The ferry lets out at the bottom and it takes about 5 to 8 minutes to get to the top with lights at every intersection.
People will crawl right up your exhaust pipe to make it through each intersection.

I guess I use it when appropriate. Didn't know never using it was a thing.
I used it a lot more the first month or two after buying the twin.
Getting used to the new mechanicals. Still going to use it anyway.

So, all y'all are flatlanders then?

It was pretty even for a bit there but we seem to be falling behind.
I guess it is really a want to do verses a need to do thing for me. My argument was that there was no "need" to do it ever but many seem to "want" to do it.
Oh well, my parking brake (as called in the manual) will continue to be used for just that and if I get killed in a horrible hill roll back incident then everybody can say they told me so.

Kind of like double clutching, rev matching, and all the other nonsense that people insist if you don't do, you'll blow up your car, yo... I guess that's what happens when you learn to drive from video games. lol

Hey - you're free to use the e-brake if you want. Just like I'm free to point out how pointless it is. Live and let live, right?

And I respectfully disagree with your statement based on my experience, but of course. Live and let live. As I said, people interpret things differently.

I'm a little surprised you took my "bite me" comment as being just a bit hostile, though. I wasn't really being that serious.
