Daihatsu influence on S-FR? Now that Scion is cut off, maybe they can help redirect Toyota.

Yes, Daihatsu was bought off by Toyota. Need more TRD innovations!

Toyota S-FR II concept bound for Tokyo

http://blog.caranddriver.com/toyota-...orts-concepts/

Quote:
In an attempt to show that Toyota means business with its effort to create a stronger sports-car range—one that encompasses small, medium and large sports cars—Japan’s number-one automaker also will unveil a purist coupe called the S-FR II concept, an evolution of the concept seen at the 2015 Tokyo auto show. With its huge grille, funky proportions, and short overhangs, the tiny rear-wheel-drive coupe will slot in at the bottom of Toyota’s sports-car lineup. It’s powered by a 116-hp turbocharged 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine or a 130-hp naturally aspirated 1.5-liter inline-four, with both versions expected to be offered with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. Toyota’s “Mr. 86,” Tetsuya Tada, father of the Scion FR-S (now the Toyota 86), has been tasked with bringing the S-FR to global markets at a starting price under $15,000—and, yes, that potentially could include the United States.

It's butt ugly, but could be a good track car or motor donor for something ultra light. The power to weight ratio on the NR series engines is good, they have high mechanical efficiency (less oil cooling requirement), and if they mate to an EC60 like transmission the transmissions should be an efficient and reasonably robust design.

Now that said, the Miata is still kind of...the better car. This is just cheaper, supposedly. If it's really just 15k, then a lightly used one would make a really really cheap track toy.

I'm still disappointed they didn't put the engine in the back and make it an MR2. Your move, Honda. Do an L15B7 midengine car.

That's being generous, and an insult to nice butts everywhere.

I would love a car this size, but not this one. No thanks Toyota. Hopefully they'll tone down the carp face before bringing it to market.

All depends on price, if it is really as cheap as a corolla, then you could pretend it's an old Miata with dents and track the shit out of it.

There is that, except I wouldn't own a Miata either (I know sports car forum sacrilege)
