The car delivered January 7th. The sequential plates delivered from the dealer last Tuesday. My appointment with the DMV for pick up was the next day. (perfect timing) I didn't have to pay anything extra for them to transfer the registration from the sequential to the personalized plates. They just let me use the same stickers since I hadn't used them yet. She said normally they would have just given me new ones.

From my past experience, they want you to surrender your other plates if you are immediately wanting to register the plates to a vehicle. Take your current plates in with you to save yourself time of having to go back out for them.

There's no cost you just have to surrender your current plates and fill out some paper work.

Just got the tags in a week ago, had to tape over the "Virginia is for Lovers" in the meantime, lol

I tried so long to find plate frames to cover that sillyness up, after 3 different sets and failed drilling attempts, someone suggested reflective tape. I found a roll at true value that matches perfectly, you can't notice until you're right up on it.

I learned at DMV as long as you can see the tag number and the expiration date, that's all that matters, I plan on cleanly cutting off the bottom all together, but then I'm worried it's a b.s reason for them to pull me over.
