Everybody gets onto the torque vs power bandwagon and often ignore all the other factors involved in acceleration. Weight, gearing, final drive, wheel size and aero all come into play. Change any one of those enough and you can change the whole feel of a car without even touching power or torque. To say simply that power or torque alone is more important ignores the big picture. They are all part of the formula

It is supposedly a double wishbone but they called the current that as well and it is actually a wishbone and a double link.
Other than that not much.

Isn’t this an issue of needing to shift to 3rd to hit 100kph? Another shift will cost you one sec for sure. I think the twins can just barely hit 60mph in two shifts right?

the specs I've seen show the MT requires a shift to 3rd in 0-60, the AT can do it in 2nd, at least with the 2013. Not sure if that changed later as they tweaked things.

Never tried but I feel I could have pulled it off in the FRS. The 86 with the changed final drive not a hope in hell.

FR-S was 58mph at redline in 2nd per my calculations. 86 would have been closer to 52mph at the top of 2nd. While it hurts the 0-60 numbers, I miss the short gears on the twins. My current car will do ~70 in 2nd and the steps are just too big with 1:1 being 4th and a 3.7 final drive. Gearing is so important for making a car engaging to drive. I've done it on a taxiway with the AT (advantage of a small airport with zero traffic most the time I'm there). It definitely hits 60 right before the redline in 2nd, but only just before redline. Didn't time it though.

Looking back at the videos and ride along videos I’m thinking the engine might be a bit under rated given the power i’m seeing put down with two in the car. At least it appears the car isn’t over rated. Possible the torque is closer to 200tq at the crank? In any event a flater tq curve and more torque should make for a faster car and better magazine numbers.

That's all technical though, the experience and joy of doing it isn't worth the effort more than a couple times. |
