I bought a second set of stockers from a fellow local member. They're quite nice. I think there are quite a few of us. #silentmajority

Hi everyone,
This is the first post I wirte on this forum but certainly not the first one I read!
I mainly took the plunge thanks to the thing I read here.
I bought a 2012 Toyota GT86 which the seller told me it was a brand new 0km end of 2014 GT86.
You can read to whole story here :

http://www.owningthegt86.com/2015/06/07/buying-the-car/

Owningthegt86.com is a blog I started when I bought the car. As a belgian (think fries, waffles, trappist beer...), my mothertongue is French but I really wanted to write in English. The blog is really really new and doesn't currently contain a lot of article nor followers.

Here in Belgium, the GT86 is pretty rare. You see more Porsche than GT86/BRZ. People are very curious about the car and, most of the time, they can't believe this car is a Toyota! So I told myself, let's tell what it is to own a GT86 in Belgium! And that's how the blog is born.

At the moment, I clocked 1450km on the odometer. I'm amazed by this car. It is everything I was expecting from it. So as long as keep away from issues and random problems, this really is gonna be a love story.

See you on the forum!
Bye.
Wil.

Hi everyone, I've been a long time lurker and finally decided to join as I've found a used FRS for a good price so I hope to be in it soon if all goes well. I've already compiled a 'to do list' in preparation of when I get an FRS/BRZ thanks to the community here and their awesome mod ideas.

Hello guys,

I finally got a 2013 silver Toyota GT86 so I decided it was time to join this excelent forum that has granted me so many good reads, tips and things to look and lookout for before my purchase.

It wasn't easy to get one as there aren't many of these here in Portugal.
Sometimes my path strayed to check out the so called "premium" brands and more powerfull hot-hatches we get in Europe, but in the end nothing compares to driving a GT86/FRS/BRZ and I'm very happy.

So, my best regards to you all and good driving.

Haha... Took me a minute. I mean maybe they changed their process since the 13 MY.

I bought mine used with 1800 miles last ... May? ish? And the paint stayed soft in the sun all through to October. The dealer put massive swirls in the finish. I plan on polishing them out this fall.

Was that a thing back in the day? I thought they may have rushed baking the chassis.

Wiki tells me that waaaaay back in the day, the reason why all Model "T"s were black, was that black was the only paint that could dry fast enough to keep up on the assembly line ..... .... maybe a myth.

Back in my day, when I was painting cars, using enamel, it was recommended to wait 30 days before waxing (no bake method).

If the paint on your 2013 stayed "soft" that long, I reckon someone forgot to put any dryers in that batch of paint .....

Uggh. Do you think it will effect the longevity of the finish? A few people reported the same issue.

I doubt it ...... but you may consider washing it with a dish soap, to remove all wax, and let it sit in our rare sunshine for a few days. Then claybar and wax it.

You shouldn't be able to dent the paint or clearcoat with your fingernail .....

Which reminds me, this is the first day of mrs humfrzs retirement .... and she suggested I need to cut my fingernails ..... Oh, It's gonna be a loooong retirement ......

Sound advice. I haven't ever stripped the wax. It's gonna be a hot one this summer.

Haven't been able to do that since last fall but I wasn't imagining it. Thanks for the reassurance.

They work fine ...... until you run onto some snow or ice ..... then, I suggest you go real easy ...... or your car will be like a hog on ice .....
