car is going to Corner3garage for vacuum leak and belt swap to a Gates K061010 from a normal length one as I have a 70mm pulley. After the installation of the kit I got a bit lazy and just want someone to fix the issues

where are the common areas you guys see vacuum leaks?

Well, i'm not sure if the answers have already been covered in detail (searching as I post), but what risks do I run by slightly overrevving a twin screw supercharger such as the 210 kit, IE, 70mm vs 72.5mm pulley?

Probably some supercharger oil usage. Just rev it out to 7100 instead of 7400 and it should be ok.

Thanks!

I'm aware that lowering the rev limit will save some headaches but I want to get 285-300 RWHP with E85 but without going to a built engine or bigger SC unit. the car will (and does) see exclusively E70-E85 year round in Chicago weather. I drag race about 3-5 days a year. I refuse to go turbo due to having shit luck with every turbo car I've ever owned.

Does the engine sound different on E85? Or is it because I put the 69mm pulley on? Engine sounds harsher now, not as smooth as before, when I rev it. It sounded better before. Just trying to figure if it's my imagination, the fuel or the pulley making the s/c work harder.

Might run this tank low and put 93 back in and possibly go back to the larger pulley.

I run a 70mm pulley and 93 octane and my car does just fine.

You can still view Ethanol content by logging the "Custom Map P" parameter in EcuTek. Going from 93 power is gradually added in with ethanol content. If you dump in E85 from an empty tank of 93 it's a much more drastic change. The engine can sound a tiny bit different running on ethanol, but not harsh. Could be your imagination, or you may have something going on mechanically, but the tune itself and Flex Fuel kit are unlikely to be causing any sort of issues in that regard. Can you log the ethanol content and report back?

Sincerely,

Zach

Interested to see the results of this. Have you had a chance to change the sc oil?

Question

How many owners installed the kit themselves? I am not a mechanic by trade but am good with my hands. I don't like the idea of having to pay for something that seems so bolt on and the satisfaction of doing it myself would be great! How difficult is the install really?

Some of the instructions aren't perfectly detailed, but I can email you the latest install guide (or you can email SprintexUSA). I did the install myself and spent a few evenings doing it. I could do it again in 3-4 hours with basic hand tools.
I'd be more than happy to talk you through some of the steps if needed. You can do the first portion of removing everything in an hour or two.

Its really simple. Everything is bolt on/off. The only part that requires you to do something other than take a bolt out or attach a hose is where you have to shave the alternator down slightly so it doesn't hit the supercharger. Besides that its very simple. I installed this in 4 hours (non intercooled before I went IC) without even rushing.

The "hardest" part would probably be placing the unit down as its a tad heavy and you have to basically hold it out in front of you to place it down. Wasn't a problem for me, but it may be beneficial to have a second person for that part.

Be quick about swapping the coolant hose on the back of the block to minimize your coolant loss, and de pressurize the gas lines by pulling the fuel pump fuse under the hood and letting the car die out. Those are the only few things I can think of that are nuisances.

Even if you aren't mechanically inclined, its simply the best way to learn about a car...just dive in and get to it. Once you do the install you will think how silly it was to even think about paying someone to install it.

Only plus side obviously to having a shop do it is if theres a problem its on them..but if you take your time you won't have any issues.

Depends a lot on what your conditions are and how familiar you are with the car itself, also if you're buying the kit new or used.

I bought the kit used, did the stage 2, the previous owner felt safer using a relay for the water pump, and to top it all off I did it outside (in 30-40 degree weather) with my tools on a tailgate. Basically, the worst possible conditions with some significant extra complications thrown in. I'd say it took me well over 10 hours of work, if not more. I think I could do it again much quicker.

The instructions are so bad in spots that they border on wrong, and that fact meant that I spent a lot of time trying to figure out hose routing. Once I figured out that there are two breather hoses and two coolant hoses, and the two coolant hoses go to the throttle body and the two breather hoses go back to the intake, it really wasn't that complicated, but I'll be damned if that wasn't very clear to begin with.

I took it slow on purpose though, tested everything as I went, double triple and quadruple checked. You can't be too careful with a FI install. If you have a mechanically inclined buddy to help you drop the supercharger (or even better, a small engine hoist/crane) on top of the engine, you'll save yourself a lot of discomfort. That bastard is heavy.

Can confirm, instructions are terrible. Did the install myself. Definitely replace the plastic hose fittings with brass ones posted earlier in thread. Have extra hose clamps handy. Have extra hose handy (assorted sizes). The brass replacement barbs require larger ID hose unless you really muscle the hose on there. But then it's a gigantic PITA if you ever need to remove the charger or hoses. I also had to buy anaerobic flange sealant (gasket maker) and plastic hose couplers. I wanted to do it right, with the right size hoses and the right size clamps.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I've installed it three times now.
