So if I were to keep the oem pistons, would it be a wise choice to purchase new oem pistons and piston rings? Or just reuse the current ones in my car?

Hi, I was wondering what the size of the idler pulley is. A buddy of mine got a used kit without the pulley and was looking for an aftermarket/alternative. He didn't get it from you guys unfortunately so cosworth isn't willing to sell us the part individually which is understandable.

I've been running the stock tensioner & idler pulley as the replacement Cosworth sent me seemed to not work according to the shop. Long story short, the stock runs just fine, even when revving the engine high. That could be a solution until Cosworth can sent you a replacement.

Hmmm

I don't understand why the pulley I sent wouldn't work? it was a dev part but it was used on our dyno engine?
can you elaborate?

Apparently it was slapping the crank pulley when the shop put it on. I do have the perrin crank pulley not the oem but I don't see why that would be an issue. But either way the shop I went to insisted it wouldn't fit. It could be the tensioner wasn't moved over far enough but I'm not sure to be honest. However the stock pulley on the tensioner works fine so far.

I'd be pretty nervous using the stock pulley when Matt et al at Cosworth have designed a new one! If the belt pops off could do some damage.

Understandable, however, I did have the one they sent me, which the shop I took my car too said it kept smacking the Perrin crank pulley I have. On the good side, I have driven the car fairly hard and it hasn't had any problems, but yes, if it does slip off, I'm screwed.

Here is the pulley they sent me. They didn't have the plastic one which came with the kit in stock, so they sent the dev version.

Mine looks very similar to that one.

So they have plastic one with the new kits then like stock.

Do you think it could be the aftermarket crank pulley I have installed?

hard to say chap without taking a look myself. You had the tensioner replaced so my first thing would be to check that's been done properly by the garage.

Damn. Well for the time being it's all running swell. And I won't be able to work much on my car as I'm in the process of moving.

hello

the pulley we originally supplied in the 1st 10 kits (of which weederr had one) was plastic

we've since changed to our own design of pulley which is alluminium

now the pulley I sent does fit the stock crank pulley but its a little tight so I'd say its very likely the perrin pulley has a slightly taller end fence or is a bit larger so this dev pulley ( which is larger than the current kit item) may then touch

What I'd suggest to press the bearing out ( having removed the circlip) and turn down the outer front fence by a few mm

also are you running the 6PK 2315 belt? as the original 2330 belt did slip a little so we revised the length which will also move the pulley further away from the crank pulley

I still have the original 2330 belt (even though it says to change every 10k miles, mine is still fine). I was going to change it soon as it's been a little squeaky. I do have the newer 2315 belt, though.

What do you mean by turn down the outer front fence? As in shave it down? If so, I cannot do that currently. However, I could try putting the pulley back on and then using the newer belt and seeing if that works. Though I should probably put the stock crank pulley back on, too....

Ok just trying the shorter belt may well be enough on its own as the increased tension will pull the idler pulley away from the crank pulley
